    2017 Tacoma TRD Off-Road
So I just bought a 2017 Tacoma TRD off-Road this weekend. It was a total spur of the moment purchase. My son works at a local dealership and the sales manager is a close family friend. I had absolutely no intentions of buying a vehicle right now or even this year lol. I made the mistake of telling my son if he could get payoff on my 2016 Jeep Patriot and keep my payments the same I would buy the truck. Well they did it! I actually got an amazing deal on the truck. I know lots of people say this but I know 100% that the dealership lost money on the entire deal. My son processes all the paperwork and he showed it to me. Sometimes its good to know folks lol.

Anyhow, I really don't know much about the truck. I was planning on getting rid of my Jeep for a Bronco next year and probably still will get one in 2022 but also needed a truck for hauling stuff so it made sense to go ahead and get this. Also was getting tired of the lack of upgrades for the Jeep Patriot. I do some moderate off roading and am a hunter / fisher etc. The truck was just a better fit for me.

All that being said, I know little about the truck. Is there any way I can find out what options I have? Stuff like what gearing, which transmission, etc? I have figured out most of the internal stuff but curious about under the hood and suspension.

Also, I have read several posts and done searches about updating the GPS but most of them are from 2017 or 2018. Mine is running GPS data from 2016 and would like to update it. I use a tablet with GAIA GPS for FS roads and such but like the onboard GPS for when no cellular to get me home and such. I was able to find a link for the audio system update and that when smoothly. Basically, just curious if anyone has found a way to update the GPS in the last 2 or 3 years without paying $50+ from Ebay or $180 from the dealership.

EDIT: While typing this, my son called and he should be able to get me all of the option info I was looking for through his dealership. Its a Ford dealer but they can access it so that probably won't be an issue. Still would be curious if there is a link to that info anyways though.

Lastly, what are some good sites for aftermarket parts for the Tacoma? Obviously, I have googled it and found tons but would like to know what you guys recommend to go through. I plan on turning this truck into somewhat of a lite overland truck down the road.

    Like, so many.
There's a load of aftermarket support for Tacomas, but not like one specific place. If you have a specific mod, just ask and you'll get lots of recommendations. I'd suggest upgrading the tires first. Also, be sure to check out your regional forum!

The tires on it are 265 Goodyear Wranglers and unfortunately look to be almost brand new. When I can talk my wife into letting me get new ones I will probably go with the 275 BFG KO2.
