Does my gen 3 2018 tacoma measure oil pressure, or is it just an idiot light?

I searched and searched a bunch of threads and found out gen 1 and gen 2 just don't have a sensor that reads oil pressure, just on/off idiot light function.

What about gen 3? Will a scan gauge or similar OBD gauge give me an oil pressure number? I run factory 0w-20. I have no oil consumption problems, or smoke, or any other indication that there is anything wrong. I just like gauges.

    thanks!

Gen 3 has engine oil pressure switch. Switch is either on or off. A gauge type system usually has sending unit with an internal variable resister to register actual oil pressure. The wiring diagram also shows a engine oil level sensor (in oil pan) that I was not aware of...

I was unaware of the low oil sensor. But since it came on after an oil change I am well aware now. It comes on at approximately 1.5 q low on oil. Well before the low oil pressure warning.

Ok then, don't think I'll bother with an aftermarket gauge. Plus, I check the oil every time I fill with gas. I got a dip stick, and I'm not afraid to use it!

But was it the low pressure light, or the low oil (volume) light or the "reminder, it is time to change your oil....light???

In the first two cases, it is not normal for that to come on with the engine running.

The friendly reminder maint. light could be totally normal.
