For years I have been slowly losing pressure on one of my wheels. 3 sets of tires and it still happens so it’s obviously not a puncture. I can’t see the rim being cracked since they don’t take a beating ever and I see no crack. That leads me to believe it’s the metal valve stem. Lately it’s gotten worse. In the past I would see the Tpms light come on after a few weeks. Now the tire is completely flat in 4 days. I tested the stem by submerging the wheel in water and see no bubbles from anywhere on the wheel. At this point I am looking on Craigslist for someone selling a wheel but I would rather find why it’s happening so as not to spend a lot for a new wheel.

The rim(s) is porous. Try painting the inside of the rim.

As I understand it, please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong; aren't the alloy wheels powdered and pressed in a mold, rather than molten metal poured into the mold?

Did you have an experienced tire repair shop do this?

I've had leaks at the bead where the wheel had corrosion (unseen from outside). Just laying it flat and running dishsoap solution around the bead area made nice bubbles.

Let me say it a different way. Try again. You can't have a leak and no bubbles. :D

I've had a tpms that loosened up a little and was leaking slowly, and i've had dirt get in the bead from wheeling and airring down cause a really slow leak too.

Get a tire shop to pop the bead off and look for corrosion/gunk where the bead meets the rim.

It can also be a leak that only happens when there’s weight on the wheel and it’s turned a certain way. Either by a nail or corrosion at the bead. As others mentioned, I’m betting on wheel corrosion.

If you've gone through three sets of tires, agree, they're not likely the culprit. That really only leaves two options, the rim inself (the bead) and the valve stem. If you saw no bubbles when you submerged the tire, I would guess it's not likely to be the valve stem, but rather the rim area, most likely (IMO) a "flat" spot on the bead somewhere. A new rim would certainly rectify the issue, but you could also check the rim; if you can get the tire off, mount the rim on the spindle and check the bead with a dial indicator for true.

Last time I got new tires I checked for any bead issues. No corrosion no bend no nothing. Toyota did a leak test and found nothing. :notsure:

tyre at proper PSI or at lest 40psi

get a bucket pour Dawn into it....................Do NOT!! make it soapy!! (NO Bubbles )

    simply for liquid s l o w l y over sections of the beads............Both Sides

    soak the etire rim

    even over the TPMS

a- the rim might have a stress crack

b- i suspect the actual ' Valve Core ' is defective

    good luck

I work with a couple of guys from Cape Breton. If your neighbors, oops, neighbours are anything like them, I bet someone is sneaky around at night letting a little air out of your tires, oops, tyres! Those Capers have a warped sense of humor, oops, humour:canada:

I would atleast rebuild The tpms with a fresh seal/gasket. Sometimes they can vibrate while the vehicle is at speed and leak but seal back off when your trying to find the leak. When I was working in a tire shop our local Dill representative told us about it and referred to it as a “ghost leak”. Worth a try and rebuild kits are cheap.

Ive seen hairline cracks in alloy rims that only leak when there's weight on it.

My 2010 had stock aluminum alloy rims with new tires when I bought it. The rims showed their wear and corrosion was nasty. Two rims leaked air constantly, first one, then the other. It took two tries at a tire shop to get it to stop leaking, then the other one started to leak. During the winter months, I was adding air in it once a week. I found some new take-off steel wheels with full chrome hub caps on CL for $100. Replaced the alloy ones with the steel and haven't needed to add air since the changeout. Scrapped the aluminum ones for $45.

Ya know I have had a set of bushwhacker flares in my garage for years and didn’t install them because I didn’t want to use spacers. Maybe it’s time to buy new wheels with the right offset to kick them out an inch, whatever that offset would be.

As a last resort, before I spent a lot of money, I'd try a half a can of fix a flat. I fought this on a couple of other cars and finally got tired of it. I know it's not the recommended method but it will plug some small leaks.
And I got to the point that I didn't care if it was a mess for the next guy that put on my new tires.

Loose TPMS or crusty/loose valve core.. A wheel would have to be seriously out of whack to let air out... shy of being visibly cracked...

Fix-a-flat or similar kills the TPMS...

It also makes it impossible for the tire to be balanced.
