It's rare to see one running at any speed let alone 88mph

Sounds about right, they're not exactly powerful.

But if I wanted a weird car to play around with, it would totally be a Delorean, they're just cool.

I saw a red one a few days ago and I didn't know how to process this information because I thought they only came in the silver stainless steel.. Looked it up... red ones may have been painted by the dealers after delivery from the factory.

I saw the BTTF one on it's way to LA once going over the grapevine. I'm pretty sure it was going 80 something.

Looks like a mid-1981, super early production model. The wheels are painted gray with the black centercaps, while the 1982 was a polished silver finish. There isn't technically a 1983 model, they're just rebadged 1982 models after Consolidated Liquidation bought the remaining stock after DMC's bankruptcy in 1982.

That has the 2.8L Peugot/Renault v6 with a blistering 130 HP. Fun Fact: another car to use this exact engine was the Peugot 604, which is as fast as it looks.

    34r34r.jpg

The car isn't physically capable of reaching 88 MPH as suggested in the movie. The speedometer only goes to 85 MPH, the movie actually modified the gauge face to read 95 MPH.

    OME and worth every penny.
In 1987 or so I was living in Santa Paula and a shop in town worked almost exclusively on Fieros and Deloreans. They had quite a few bought wrecked and repaired. I knew the guy running the shop and we used ride the loop out around Ojai, Ventura and back in cars from the yard. I remember driving a blue one. Lots of people had them painted back then. I turned out to like Fieros better.
