I'll bet a laser cutter/ engraver would work great for that, and I might know someone with one...

This exactly, especially down here. I bring a bit of dry wood to keep a fire going, wet wood sucks. And those people who say you can split wood to get to the dry stuff are full of shit. It usually takes a few nights of wet split wood sitting around a fire for it to actually burn. Not to mention there are a few species that don't ever burn well.

 

It absolutely would. I think the factory ones are silk screened.

 

Never had the problem, but my version of camp is different than most here so it’s understandable.

I think a couple things are important to keep in mind here:

1. Ben's gas remark was just to get a rise out of me. Gas and firewood are quite different - it's like saying that you're "burning your money" when you charge your cell phone or turn on a light b/c the power plant is burning coal. And no, you couldn't do any of the adventures we do without gas (at least as of today.)
2. Location probably does affect the equation. But, where Ben, Brett, JKO, and I camp, there's always plenty of wood around to gather, and it's easy to find dry wood except perhaps in the winter if it's covered in snow.

I would much rather burn wood I know I chopped, the satisfaction is worth way more than $20 to me. I've always enjoyed physical labor though.

And I was just poking fun, even though a wood powered vehicle is very possible, gasification, it's viable and would just add to the journey. Plus you could post about it to get more views.

When I'm out in the woods I probably spend half my time around the camp site gathering and cutting wood, but I always have a backup plan.

 

Easy to do, it’s just right there in the open. I started at the front and worked my way back because I wanted to end on that easy to access zerk.

Shock is fixed

Held pressure overnight. Turns out it must have been the loose schrader valve and resi hose (you'd think there would be a bit better quality control on these kinds of shocks... but I digress).

Doing some touch up and maintenance before I start putting everything back together.

Touching up the bedliner where it's over the rail. It has always bugged me that there were light spots where you could see body color through... and the white haze from the wax and polishing compound had to go.



Repainting the tool boxes... they were looking pretty beat after a couple years on the truck. Spraying the bed rail and truck boxes with Duplicolor bed liner spray. I like it A LOT more than the rustoleum bed liner spray I've used in the past... goes on much more even and the nozzle doesn't clog.



Already repainted the RTT rack. I liked the chassis paint I used on the frame so much that it went on the RTT rack too. It's a change from a matte paint I had on ut before to more of a semigloss. The matte looks cool to begin with but it's hard to keep clean and seems to dull out quickly. Hopefully the semi gloss works better.

 

I do not have a picture of my wood pile, but this is what my truck looks like on most days off in the fall.

 

We go through 5 or 6 piles like that every spring, but we’re out there for 2 months so it’s ok

 

Got outta town.

 

I ordered this CBI Trail Rider on the 6th of July and they called me 8 days later saying it was ready to ship. I picked it up at my local Estes warehouse on the 18th. I was planning on installing it tomorrow but my ship just got called out on a quick fuel run so it’s gonna have to wait. If anyone’s interested in pulling the trigger on one I got the dual swing out w/dual Jerry can holder, both swing outs have the camp table drop down and I got the camp light pole. All said and done it was $3200 w/shipping. The most I’ve ever paid for any mod on my truck but I’m single with no kids so I have money to burn.

This thing looks extremely well built!!! I can’t wait to finally get it on.

Cell service was (coincidentally) on @drr campsite quality request list for that day as he had to do some 'remote' work from camp to impress his boss.

IIRC, this was our only campsite with cell service the entire trip.

Also, there was a huge pile of rounds sitting there, begging to be burned... So we did!

I wish I was allowed to like this more than once.

You gotta remember that some would forgo a campfire entirely, rather than buy a bundle of wood.

 

Same thing happened to me. Snapped it right off wheeling when I dragged it over a Boulder at some point I imagine.

Didnt try drilling it out though. If i need to grease it, I'll just disconnect it at the third member pinion flange and lube the splines manually. Oh well

This is one of the few times an ez out can actually work well. Or a left hand drill bit.

 

That looks like a kid from welding shop in high school did that.
