what brand and type of tires are people in your neck of the woods that are working in that type of terrain, buy those

 

this are great, but I'll throw Yokohama M/T G003 in the ring too. After running ST MAXX and switching to Yokos, I wouldn't dream of running ST MAXX again

Much like the OP I’ll run the stock tires until spent.

When the BFG KO first came out I put a set on my Jeep. These are the everyday tires. I have a second set of tires for off-roading.

The result of that purchase has been that I’ve used only KO LT’s on my pickups since.

Do you sacrifice some mpg? Yes, but tire performance is well worth it.

 

Would you have to do a CMC for that?

 

No. Just remove mudflaps and all good.

If you are looking for something E rated that is quieter and just as capable (probably more capable) than a K02, check out the Toyo Open Country AT3. I have them on my truck and love them. They replaced Cooper ST Maxx.

 

Man, this is such a super helpful thread!!! So, yeah-talked to Truck folks IRL (my job has loads of folks who are super into their trucks) and going with advice from them and here, I settled in Class E KO2s in the same size 265/70/16. With black lettering I’m at discount tire right now. And! I found a guy at work who is the go to guy who will help/teach people in adding a leveler or lift kit. So, next project is a 2inch leveler. Love learning more about my beloved Tacoma! Thank you all.( I’m keeping all the suggestions in case the KO2s don’t work for me!)

 

I’ll warn you that KO2s are /worthless/ in the mud. Cooper Discoverer AT3 performs much better in the muck

 

They are also trash on the snow and ice excellent on dry trails and dirt and gravel though

 

Those 2ply OEM Wranglers are very susceptible to nail punctures, as are many cheap tires of that ilk.
BFG KO2’s E Rated and a few other premium heavy tires almost never puncture or blow out till they are getting close to bald. Well Worth the money, forget the aggressive sounding model names on junk imported rubber.
