Regear on a Stock manual tranny...?

I know, right? But but BUT, hear me out. Sometimes, you gota go slow AF! With a slush box that's all well and good. Your torque converter will drive for you. But if you have a real gear box, you gota put it in 4 low, and if your steering is pinned, and if it's dry, maybe some wind up. So I guess my question would be, would regearing let me go SLOWER? instead of burning clutch? Decend with more control? If it does, would it even be worth it? I feel like I could swap a clutch myself.... but I would def need to shell out 5k or so for a pro to do gears.... Just the wheeling I've done been more steep that rough or muddy.

 

This is what you need, the $115 two wheel drive low mod. Also, great for reducing the tall reverse gear while backing up with trailer, etc.

A re gear would technically make you go slower, but not a crawl kinda slower. 2 low mod gets my vote as well

The only “re-gear” experience i’ve had was between multiple automatic chevys - and the one with 4.10s crawled much slower than the one with 3.73s

We already have 4.3s and it goes a bit fast in 4lo downhill.... may just not have enough displacement to really slow the truck down on a steep descent

I will say, for a low-torque truck, the gearing is not low enough in “low” - she doesn’t want to idle over rocks, she just dies instead

I wish 1st gear were lower on just about every manual transmission car I drive. I hate the feeling of slipping a clutch to get started hauling a heavy load or starting on a big hill. It's just not worth the expense of regearing.

 

2 wd lo all the way. I bought it forever ago, and finally installed in the last month, huge improvement.

 

I recommend the 2Lo mod. Re-gearing will affect all your gears and make you spin really high rpms on the freeway.
