I started my truck the yesterday and noticed the check engine light was on and steady. I decided to drive it down the street and noticed that at around 1600-1700 rpms the truck would sort of “jerk” as if its having an issue shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. My truck is brand new I’ve had it for about 3 weeks and only put 851 miles on it. I’m surprised a check engine light illuminated so quickly after purchasing it. Btw the truck is at the dealership right now and am waiting for a diagnosis. Anyone else having this issue???

Well first off if it is jerking I'd persoanlly stop driving it. It is not going to just go away.

Second use that toyota warranty and call the dealer.

Third pickup a cheap 50 dollar OBDII reader from Amazon to save yourself a call and trip for something as trivial as a gas cap.

Edit: I read too fast and missed the dealer part my bad. Let us know what is going on I'm interested since the fuel pump recalls

Literally the only thing I like about my work truck (2018 F150) is the "no gascap" gascap. It is pretty wonderful.
Edit: Well that, and that it's free to drive. That's pretty ok too.

I'm pretty sure someone else in the country has had this issue and thousands have had this happen over the years. I hope we don't start posting new threads every time something happens to our vehicles. Not every vehicle will be 100%, that's why they come with a warranty. Sorry it happened, but I don't think posting a thread asking if anyone has had a check engine light occur in a new vehicle will help.

Update: Dealership said they received code P071015, for a transmission fluid temperature sensor “A” circuit short to battery or open. They inspected the harness and found nothing wrong and ended up clearing the code and test driving it for 30 miles and the code hadn’t reappeared. Still makes me feel little uneasy that the truck had check engine light so early on... good thing it cost me $0.00 and the light is gone so I guess thats all that matters.

Eh it's logged and tracked. If the issues comes back up then it'll be noted and should result in a more thorough check. With that being said enjoy

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
TCM needs to know fluid temp for proper clutch engagement. Either harness or fluid temp sensor itself. Both will be covered under warranty and I honestly doubt any permanent damage was done unless you were seriously slamming into gear, each and every gear in which case, powertrain will cover any issues down the road.

its usually a minor oversight............like an aftermaket locking fuel cap

or the original fuel cap loose

or maybe anixious new owner................something U did

bottom line there should have been a code or codes
usually dealer will let U know what they are .........................

They inspected the harness and said it was good. They also checked the trans fluid which was good as well. The dealership talked to toyota and was instructed to replace the ecu. Unfortunately for me the ecu is on back order without an eta of when it will be back in stock so until then its a waiting game.

Update #3?: Got the truck back after 2 1/2 weeks. The dealership ended up replacing the ECU along with the harness going to the transmission fluid temperature sensor. Been driving the truck for about a week and so far so good! Needless to say it sucks that this truck already had issues at less than 1000 miles but everything was covered under warranty including the rental so I’m happy with that.
