I have a Hyundai Kona now as a rental car, it is a massive piece of shit that I would never recommend to anyone.

I'm 6 ft, to get a third person in the car I had my knees touching the dash, and his knees were in my back. Getting on the freeway I floored it on on the on ramp and instead of accelerating the car hit the rev limiter and started coasting.

Do not buy it. I know this is a bit late but I've been browsing these forums a lot lately so late to the party on some threads. But let me repeat. Do. Not. Buy. It.

I bought a new 2017 Renegade Trailhawk in 2018. It had it's engine replaced under warranty at 40k miles - right now there is a class action lawsuit going on because the 2.4 Liter Turbo Shark engines burn through oil. This is why my engine was replaced.

I was driving to work, going 65 on the highway. Speed limit is 60 and usually if you're not going 70 you're getting tailgated pretty hard. I cruise control at 65 for the gas mileage. This road is just two lanes (highway 7 between New Germany and Mayer for all your Minnesota peoples) and I was luckily in a passing area when my entire engine just died. Everything died with it - steering, breaking, everything. Because I was in a passing area I was able to not get into an accident and coast to the shoulder. Took about 10ish minutes to get it restarted, before, during and after this happened there were no warning lights on the dash.

I finished driving into work and it was before 8am but called the first Jeep dealership in the area and left a message for the service desk. I got a call back promptly and they told me to go check my dipstick. I asked him why as I just got an oil change in November (this was mid February) and there was no way it was low on oil (and besides, wouldn't I have gotten a notification on the dash?), he said to just go check it and give him a call back. I go and check and there wasn't any oil on the dipstick at all. Call him back, tell him he's right and he informs me it's a known issue for some of these Renegades as they can burn oil.

Over the next few weeks I check my oil every time I refuel and call another closer to home dealership to get an oil consumption test. I bring it in and the tech tells me they can't run it because my head gasket is leaking oil. So I get that replaced and after a week and a half, two weeks I go back in to pick it up but find out that while they were putting the new head gasket on that there were some other issues with the engine so they just ordered a replacement. Another few weeks later I go back and pick up my Rene.

I loved this vehicle, put some Method 701s with AT3Ws on it, did some minor appearance mods and I loved this thing. But I can't trust that this same 4 cylinder 2.4 liter turbo shark engine won't crap out on me after 40k miles or sooner. It seems this engine is having A LOT of issues and I need a reliable daily driver. So that's why I'm getting out of it this winter.

There also might be a massive recall on these engines as they do not pass emissions. Basically it's a hot mess and I'm eager to get out of this heep.

This...for MY daughter too. Mine is 14 though and already wanting a stink'n jeep. She loves driving my Tacoma on our back roads but I can't convince her to start saving so SHE can get one. :D

    Edit: And good luck!

I'd look for a prior gen Rav-4. My sister has one and it checks all the similar boxes and has a nice and reliable Toyota badge on the front.

Some of those trims on the RAV-4 are darn cute. I looked over one with the "adventure" package whenever that first came out. I thought the little interior accents were fantastic fun. Made me so jelly that I went home and bought a bunch of shit from MESO.
