@JL8Jeff I see your truck all over TW and every time I see it, I'm so impressed. Sad that I couldn't make the purchase a while back when I checked in with you. Also, I appreciate all of your insights as a RC owner - I keep going back and forth between selling my XtraCab for an RC, but I think I'm going to try to find one soon.

Double cab will hold more value and is more practical unless it's strictly a work truck

I've always been a regular cab owner going back to 1991 when I bought a slightly used 1990 Toyota pickup with the 3.0 V6 and 5 speed with 31's on it. I've had a few reg cab Tacomas and a few Silverado reg cab short bed trucks. They're a great daily driver and easy for towing smaller boats. I still can't believe Toyota stopped making the reg cab and Chevy/GMC has also stopped making the reg cab short bed. So I keep my eye out for a recent Z71 since I miss the power of the 5.3.

Access cab is better, but don't go into debt for it.

I've gone with the access cab on my last two trucks because my first was a standard cab. Anytime I wanted to carry a gym bag AND take a passenger, their feet would have to fight my gym bag... Access cabs solve that problem, since I can put things behind the front seats.

I have all 3 in one form or another ...85 Mini SC, 2001 Tundra AC, and 2015 Taco Pro DC. The mini has almost no cab room so is on the bottom of the list. Tundra has plenty of storage in the cab, but the Suicide back doors suck in a parking lot! The DC has tons of inside room at the expense of the bed. Unless all you can afford is the SC I would avoid it as it has next to no lockable storage and is tight if you are tall like I am (fine for a rock crawler but not a DD). If you don't mind the semi limited access to the rear on the AC models and also the basically useless rear seats it gives the best of both worlds. Same WB as the DC but you get the longer bed and quite a bit of inside storage. MY DC is basically my car so having the real back seat is nice when hauling a crowd and for trips it gives a ton of inside lockable storage with the seats folded down.

Does anyone know what the OP decided?

I guess not. Looks like he hadn't been around since Dec 2019. :notsure:

Typical...ask for advice, then disappear without giving an update or a thank you.

Yeah, but there is still a lot of very good info from this thread. We've learned that if you need a lot of room inside the cab, get a double cab. If you don't need as much room as a double cab, get a access cab, & if you need little room in the cab, get a reg. cab. I'd been wondering about this for yrs., but now I have it figured out. Thanks OP.

I searched high and low for an access cab with the 2.4 and manual transmission... I simply refuse to have a double cab but... the only thing that pisses me off about my access cab is in the supermarket parking lot with a car parked next to you and you want to load your groceries into the truck. Open up the front door and then open up the suicide door. How are you going to get the cart in between them. Partially close the suicide door and squeeze by it to get a sack out of the cart and then squeeze back past the door again to put it in the back seat area. Now, if you do manage to get the cart in between the two open doors there is only enough room for you and the cart in that space. How are you going to get the cart out past the door again if there is a car parked next to you? Now, is what I do if I am going to do some shopping is I make sure to park my truck on an end spot so no one can park next to you and that seem to solve the issue.

For me there is no compelling reason to favor a reg cab over an AC or DBL. Having more truck is always better than having less truck.
