What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Lol ya, I helped my brother and his wife move to AZ a few years back and it felt like I drove through a wall of bugs. Had to pull over a couple of times and refill the wiper fluid..

I'm sure someone from Florida will chime in on this. I'm not from Florida, but I was on a work trip down there during love bug season. That was like nothing I had ever seen before!

 

I figured the bezel is easy enough to replace if I ever want. Super happy with the location.

 

After a year I replaced my climate control panel, the high speed wire and the connector. Took all of 10 minutes once I realized there is a bottom plate you can pry off to release all the old pins. It actually took longer for my solder gun to heat up than it did to do the swap once I found that plate.

 

For the list of parts, see Deekyns reply. That's pretty much where I got the list. My Kenwood headunit connects to the vehicle with Maestro module, which plugs into the OBDII for the gauges function.

Got my truck a year ago today. Looks slightly different these days. Love this thing so damned much!

 

Also finally got the rightish awning room. This is the third one and it fits ok’ish at this point heather and I am just sick of dealing with it enough to keep it. I may end up just breaking down and selling my HEO awning and buying the actual arb then if it doesn’t work then screw it.

Anybody have Plasti dipped wheels?

Thinking about doing it to my OEM wheels, have heard good things about longevity. Don’t want aftermarket wheels and powder coating is like 6x the cost while still having a chance for failure.

 

I've had mine plasti-dipped for over a year, they're holding up just fine after everything I've thrown at them. Cost me $30 in total for 4 wheels. Top picture was after playing in Florida swamp mud for 3 hours.

 

Well it wasnt today but thought it may be helpful to someone at some point.

My drivers side inner cv boot tore at 10k feet on a mountain in Colorado. Here is the temp fix that got me through 3 days of wheeling and the drive home to So Cal.
1. Jack drivers wheel up about an inch off the ground .
2. Remove the factory cv boot clamp .
3. Using a syringe and some 1/8 inch tubing squeeze cc grease into the cv boot .
4. Use wipes to clean the grease from cv boot and axle shaft .
5. Use a zip tie or hose clamp to reattach the cv boot to the shaft
6. Use silicon rescue tape to repair the cv boot.
This repair got me thru another day of wheeling in Colorado then to Moab and 2 days of wheeling there before driving to So Cal this morning.

 

Added URD TCAI, MAF Sensor Calibration Unit and mbrp 3” stainless turndown exhaust.

 

Can I see a shot from the side of your truck?

 

For the record, my son recently became a insurance adjuster for a major insurance company and he told me that if the vehicle serves off of the roadway and hits a: tree, house, PERSON, etc, they will not cover it. But if the vehicle stays in the roadway they will cover the damages/loss... not limited to but including loss of life. Weird.

nice field repair. Didn't think about carrying extra grease and tubing for this type of repair. time to update my kit.

Awesome. I really wanted to “do it right” and powder coat but the price and the recent discovery of failure / flaking is swaying me to plasti dipping them.

 

Ya, two years ago. I couldn't think of a legit reason to buy new ones so I plastidip'd them lol. They still look great IMO. I honestly think the paint held up because I wipe them down with MeGuiar's plastic/rubber spray (with UV & scotch guard) everytime I clean the truck.
