I'm still using the one that came from RakAttach, but it seems part quality has decreased since 1up took over production. Those anti wobble plates can go on multiple ways, so it's possible the way you have it on there isn't the most stable. I can try to get a pic of mine.

A hitch costs more than the mount, a tailgate pad can ruin your tailgate, plus it takes time to add/remove every time. The mount I have is always there and ready. Takes no more time to take the wheel off then to put into a rack. Hitch adds at least 3' to departure angle, tailgate pad doesn't necessarily secure the bike from moving

what are you guys thoughts on clips vs flats? Ive been biking for about 4yrs now and am much more confident on the bike. I have always been pretty heavily in the flats camp but now that I'm riding more aggressively I'm considering trying out clips. my only hesitation is not being able to bail as quickly if needed.

I’ve personally never had any issues getting unclipped...although I keep mine pretty loose to the point where they come out on big bunny hopes if I’m not paying attention haha

I do think they both have their merits though. I have both and switch on occasion. I say try it. Get some of the cheaper shimano pedals and whatever shoes fit and give it a shot

are the spd cleats typically easier to release than crankbrothers?

I’ve never used crank brothers so I can’t really say tbh

I’ve been clipless for 20 plus years. Have always ran TIME ATAC clipless and love them, easy in and out. Any clipless pedal is a learning curve but once your brain syncs in with unclipping it’s never an issue in any emergency situation, it comes without thinking. Nothing wrong with flats but if you decide to try clipless give it a good go before giving up on them.

I figured I would give it 1-2 months since I typically ride 3ish times a week so that would give me a good trial period. doing some research it looks like times and crank brothers give you a little more float than the SPD set ups. since I dont really have a comparison, im guessing any cheap set up should be fine to start.

I started with times, they were fine but I broke one of the springs hitting rocks. It still worked but was super loose. I’ve been running SPDs since then and they just work and are available everywhere

Love SPDs! I even put them (SPDs) on my road bike. Now I use the same (MTB) shoes for both bikes.

Dude nice! I enjoy the fact you decided to repair rather than wasting that frame. How much was the repair?

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about my sidewall pinholes. Decided to replace them sooner rather than later. Gonna try the DHF/DHR combo. Hopefully they live up to all talk.

Nice evening ride. No one else on the trail, was nice! The more miles I’ve gotten on this thing, the more I’ve come to a couple of realizations. One, I need a new dropper post with more drop. This one extends too far out of the frame and doesn’t drop far enough out of my way. And two, I need to jump on a stiffer wheelset. The harder you ride this bike the more wallowy the rear end. You don’t notice it too much on descents, but it’s glaring on ascents. This bike would be much better if it had a carbon frame, or at least a carbon rear triangle. IMHO.

Also, helmet arrived yesterday. Not as blingy as I expected. More matte. Oh well, still love it!

    not enough.
Literally within the first 20 ft of the trail...I give it one pedal stroke and this happens. I was afraid that shortening the chain would leave me without eagle on the trail but luckily, it all worked out in the end. now for a new chain.
