An peasize outward dent with broken paint and developing sheet metal corrosion was noticed near the sharkfin Sirius antennae on my 2017 4wd Tacoma's roof this spring. Dealership scoped under the cab headliner and showed me a photo of a mounting bolt for the Sirius antennae directly under the outward dent. Their conclusion was "external forces" caused the damage, and our living in snow country was the likely cause. Light downward hand pressure on the roof can easily make the thin exterior sheet metal contact this antennae mounting bolt which is millimeters from the underside of the sheet metal. Opposite side is similar, with a bit more effort to make contact. Over the past couple months all the time consuming efforts up the chain into Toyota corporate have proved useless, as they refuse to back their product and admit defect - either design issue or overdriven bolt. Insurance adjuster verified the defect, and is "putting the screws to dealership" on our behalf. If this was not a nearly new still under warranty truck, I would probably deal with keeping the corrosion under control with periodic attention to keep it protected. Much less hassle than dealing with a corporation who will not back their product. Have 2 other Toyotas, 91' and 03' both bought new, well maintained, that have endured years of snow. Anyone else out there noticed this type of damage?
