I have a 2009 with the factory AM/FM/CD that has the aux/accessory socket near the lighter. It worked fine until recently and now appears to have a short in it. An MP3 player will play for a while and then the AUX drops out on the stereo. Anyone know what the issue is before I tear it apart? I assume I need a socket. Any help and or part numbers would be great. Thanks!

Going to try and start simple, work your way back.

Have you tried a different source, like a different phone or MP3 player?

Have you tried a different cable?

Ok, I finally fixed this as I'm approaching a long road trip and wanted to be able to use my MP3 player- I still have the OE stereo! I searched on YouTube and of course there are multiple videos of this so it's a fairly common problem across multiple Toyota vehicles. The issue is there is a small circuit board, for some reason, on the aux jack and the solder joints crack. The fix is a new aux jack or resolder the original. You might as well try to fix it instead of replacing it and save the existing one. If you screw up then no loss, buy a new one. There are generic ones on ebay for ~$15 PN 86190-02010

    quick summary of the fix:
    1. remove the HVAC control panel from the dash using plastic trim tools at the bottom. Pry out. The bottom pops out easily, but the top will take some work. Pull straight out. You don't need to remove the panel from the harness, you can leave it hanging.
    2. remove the aux jack. Reach in and down at the top and push out the aux jack. There's a clip at the top of the jack housing and push that in (down) while pushing forward.
    3. Unplug, remove, and disassemble the aux jack housing. Pry out with two small screwdrivers as shown and remove the top clip which locks everything in the case.
    4. remove the circuit board, it will drop out of the housing, and resolder the joints. When I looked at my board, it looked fine to my old eyes. But using my magnifying glass (phone camera zoomed in) the cracks were obvious. I have a decent Weller soldering station and used some small diameter solder to touch up all of the joints.

Pry out the case and pull out the tab that's above the harness socket

Three are visibly cracked, and maybe four.
