my 2019 sr5 also has heated outside mirrors. Which is nice in the winter time.

I went with the SR! Sounds like you've made your choice - congrats btw but will share why I went that route (outside budget)!
    • I'm not a big fan of the tires and wheels on the SR at all but think I would end up replacing most tires/wheels down the road
    • Random but is a big deal to my lady, the visors do NOT have mirrors! (this cracks me up to no end)
    • I personally prefer the SR blacked-out grille to the chrome-trimmed SR5 and de-badged doors, also love that the pieces between the front/rear windows are paint matching instead of black trim
    • Same with the interior, I like that it's all black with pretty much no 'chrome'
    • Have I mentioned there's no chrome? The door handles, climate knobs, etc - only chrome is the steering wheel emblem and the 4x4 shift knob
    • The smaller touch screen and lack of DRL don't matter at all to me
    • Power driver's seat would have been super nice, probably the one thing I don't have that I wish I did
    • Fog lights and the leather-trimmed steering wheel also weren't deal-breakers for me
    • Some of this seems regional, but the SR in Canada still had all the TSS, heated seats, heated mirrors, back up cam
These are all pretty small things and I'm sure there are more but this is the stuff that mattered/didn't matter to me! The SR might be the route to go if you plan to do a ton of custom mods and hate chrome. But tbh, if budgets weren't a thing, I'd probably have gone TRD OR off the bat

Unless you off road all the time I see no reason for the Off Road version.

I have the 4x4 2020 TRD Sport. I have 4WD when I need it, but have everything I need in that package.

I like the trd sport features over the lower trims. I found the trd sport suspension quite nice driving around. It does have trd tuned bilsteins for better road handling than the sr/5. I will be going off road but but 80% will be on road(hence not trd OR). The heated seats do feel nice for your lower back on the long drives. I love the qi charger and 110v in the bed. Its a good middle of the pack trim level

Completely agree, sport is the best all around trim for those not rock crawling and can still go off road. One quick correction that the sport tuned suspension is Hitachi

Here’s detailed information for what’s included for each 2020 Tacoma trim level. Study it hard and decide what you need and then test drive. There will be a test at the end of the week for everyone here.

If decide you want the manual then of those options the TRDOR is the only one you can get. Also be aware of other options that might be important to you. All SR, SR5 and manual trans. models have a physical key vs. the fob with push button start. The manual trans. is the main reason I got the TRDOR vs the SR5.

    Like, so many.
Sounds like the SR5 might be a good option. I wanted the rear diff lock so I went OR. I will say you may want to consider upgrading the suspension since you'll be going off road.

The SR5 has heated outside mirrors as well. The OR does have the turn signals in the mirror, if that's important.

OP, the SR5 is a great truck. I would say check out the SR5 since it checks off all of your boxes and doesn't have stuff you don't care about, but it never hurts to drive all of them to see which one you like best. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them.

Sr5 has plenty of technology plus its got a clean look...will say imo, i'm not a fan of the sr5 grill. I've had sr5's forever, they seem to be the most reliable long term. Just about everyone i know thats bought trd have had an issue of one kind or another in 10 years.

    Working on it ...
I sort of went through a similar ordeal. Had a 2002 TRD off-road 4 x 4 extended cab. It was a great truck but was sniffing at 300,000 miles and blew a head gasket. It was time to MoveOn and I was convinced what I want was another TRD off-road. But after driving several trucks and doing price calculations, I realized I really don’t off road like I once did. None of the key features of Off Road where really going to be put to good use. By FAR and away my driving was commuting and working the truck hauling stuff, etc. So I ended not going the Off Road route. Worked out dandy for me.

    Good luck!

Everyone on here will say get a TRD OR even if you never leave pavement. If you dont just get an SR5 and save a ton of money.

Depends on whats going on with prices in your area. The TRD costs more but it also will have the highest resale and trade in value. I just bought a TRD double cab long bed on Friday for $38k out the door including my states capped $500 sales tax. I think about 1 in 20 Taco TRD crew cabs are 6' beds so for more or less the same price as a kitted out SR5 I got an uncommon breed of the most popular mid size in the country. The cheapest SR5 long bed I can find on Auto Trader within 300 miles of me right now is $35500 and you can be sure thats not including dealers fee of $800 and T-T-T.

This ended up making my choice for me. I wanted a manual and a 6 foot bed, so the TRD Sport access cab was my only choice. When you pick a manual, you lose the crawl control and multi terrain select from the off road packages. As others have said, I enjoy the TRD suspension on the road. Even on the bumpy forest service roads, it seems fine. All I'm missing from the OR is a diff lock and the Bilstein suspension. The factory tires on any trim aren't what I would choose, so I consider that a non-factor. Though I think the stock TRD OR tires will be more capable off road and in snow.

If I were going with an auto trans, I probably would have gotten a TRD Off Road. I really like having the bed outlet which isn't on an SR5, and gaining the crawl control, diff lock and multi terrain select seem like nice features to have. Plus... better resale. If you ever wanted the Sport suspension instead of the OR, you can find stock take offs dirt cheap here. But you can't add the MTS, Crawl, or diff lock to the Sport. Well, there are aftermarket diff locks but that's another story.

All in all, any 4x4 Tacoma seems capable off road to well beyond where I would regularly take a new $35k truck.
