Did the same thing when I change my wife's oil in her rouge. Took it for a short test ride parked in the garage open the hood and probably a half a cup of oil spray came up and out. Not too bad, never did that before.

How the heck did the cap stay in the engine bay? Lucky for you it didnt make its way into your fan while the engine was running.

Same here. Last time the service manager looked out and saw me under the hood and asked whomever was next to him, "Is he checking his oil?" I turned towards the open service bay door where his desk is located and shook my head yes. I got home and crawled under my truck and they never bothered to wipe the oil off the frame and surrounding area. So my truck will not be going back for the last free oil change.

Had that happen to me one time on my Ford Ranger. I always start mine after I changed the oil so I could check it. Was sitting in the seat with my left foot out on the ground when I started the truck I felt oil being slung on my pants leg. I knew what I had done before I looked at the oil filter I had just taken off. I never made that mistake again.

Local dealership charges $63.00 for a oil change. I bought 6 quarts of Rotella gas engine oil and a filter on Ebay then paid a shade tree mechanic $15.00 labor to change my oil. About $13.00 difference. So no the dealership is not getting rich on oil changes.

Although the bulk oil they use is cheaper than what i can buy oil for so they may of made a few dollars more than I figured.

You are lucky to pay those kinda prices where you live. It’s at least 50% to 100% more in my market.

It was less than a mile, I normally only start the engine and maybe move it to get to the oil catch pan. The filter is in the back of the engine and there was a hose that was a nice holder for it. I am glad it was not a big mess .. etc..
