1 person is NOT a class action suit

toyota .......nisson.... chevy would simply roll out a perfect example that performs flawlessly

no less you could provide pristine examples of each
drive them same day eyeball to eyeball
    elbow to elbow
esentially what Ur going to getis different results

its unreasonable ( 3rd grade ) to think they will be the same
    DIFFERENT COMPUTER PROGRAMS!

its ludicrous to thinks toyota wouls program same as ranger
    colorado
    frontier

that dash gadget is NOT the correct way to calculate MPG
actual pimp miles in/actual miles run

EFI returns excess fuel to the tank
i know of NO system that accurately measures return fuel

Well, Toyota got sued for cars accelerating WITHOUT mashing the pedal, so maybe they decided to go the other way?:notsure:

OK....so clearly you havent read anything I or others have said. This is a VERY common issue that a lot of people not just me are having. Shifting that often will cause long term damage to the transmission. Getting 12 when the rating says 22 is unacceptable. I HAVE been cacluating fuel in fuel out not using the computer. The tech at Toyota said he "sees this all the time but mine is the worst". So clearly it is a known issue for now 5 model years that Toyota has not or does not know what to do about it to fix it from randomly happening to certain trucks. It is not "my driving style" it is cruise control so it is a computer problem. Toyota makes AMAZING cars and trucks but this problem is very serious and will lead to serious problems in the future if not fixed permanently across the board.

Oh fucking puhlease with the 4.30 BS. The MT doesn't have lower gearing than the AT, it has a lower ring and pinion gear ratio but has a higher gear ratio in the transmission across the range, end up pretty close to the same

i dont have Ur point o view

i dont agree with Ur point o view

im not going to get in the gutter & make this personal

iv had @ Tacomas ............. no issues as there are as many posting that DONT have issues

word o mouth of incidents DO NOT rise to the level of a class action suit

as iv simply stated Touota will simply trot out vehicles that dont have issues

im driving a vehicle that does NOT have issues

others are driving vehicles that dont have the issues U report

what percentage of 100k units sold each are having issues

thats a steep hill to climb

AT will spin about 300-350 rpm less on hwy in 6th, so thats a pretty big difference if you ask me.

I dont know if its the gears or i got lucky with my truck, but my truck has excellent response, its quick and i never felt unsafe or that i had lack of power to accelerate. FWIW I did drive my buddies 19 AT OR and it drove just fine, maybe i have low expectations? I dont know.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Your best bet to getting traction is recreating it, recording results on your phone and taking toyota service tech with Techstream hooked up so they can monitor pressures, what's being commanded, various solenoids etc... But it all starts with giving them the parameters to recreate. It sucks, but sometimes all it takes is going to a different dealer to be taken seriously. It is not all across the 3rd gen years because mine most definitely does not have these symptoms so something is reporting things incorrectly for the transmission to make bad choices in your case. Again, transmission does what the TCM tells it to do. It doesn't sound mechanical.

I’m not really sure, I do have a friend who was a mechanic for our power company in this area. My understanding is that with a lot of the cab forward designs on the newer Ford’s from 96 on, the only way to get to certain parts of the motor is to pull the cab because the engine is buried under the firewall .
This literally could be replacing a six dollar gasket which he said he had done before.

You're going to have to prove shifting that often will cause long term damage, not speculate. We haven't had a rash of transmission failures in the 4+ years the model has been out so right now the data isn't on your side.

How often do you think those 8 and 10 speed transmissions shift when compared to the 6 speed? ATs are designed to shift automatically based on load and transmission logic, cruise control adds another dimension. It's doesn't know nor is it designed to stay in the gear you want it to be unless you take away upper gear choices using S mode.

As I said before, cruise control is not designed for best MPGs, only to maintain speed using transmission logic based on load.

    1. I was not saying that the transmissions were programmed the same, just that the transmission on the Canyon I had performed similarly in hills.

    2. In case you missed reading it in the post. I did calculate the actual mpg manually, 130.7 miles and pumped 7.095 gallons, which was actually higher mpg than what the display showed (18.4 vs 17.2mpg, see photos).

My point was that the OP’s issue is atypical, which would make a class action suit very difficult to pursue. They average over 200,000 Tacoma sales a year, and set a sales record in 2019 of over 248,000, dwarfing the number of complaints of transmission and mileage issues on a percentage basis. Braking and handling are bigger consumer complaints on the newer Tacoma’s. The 2009, 2016, and 2017 models had the most transmission complaints, which peaked in 2016, and have diminished every year since.

No vehicle is without issues, but you will hear more complaints on forums such as these as the participants often come here because they have issues, whereas you don’t hear of the hundreds of thousands satisfied customers. they aren’t looking to vent.

In the three years before I went to 285 tires I averaged 21 mpg with a 40 mile daily round trip commute. My speed was 45-60mph depending on traffic and I have a toolbox with 150lbs of stuff, a two inch lift and sliders installed.

    Since installing 285s I average 18 -19mpgs now.

We have a returnless system so no fuel goes back to the tank. Pressure and volume is regulated by adjusting the voltage to the pump.

Manual has a solid advantage besides 3rd and reverse. 5th and 6th is huge.
