Old thread, but why does a soft topper look good on a truck then?
To my thinking, practical nicely made stuff is exactly what gives a vehicle "soul." I scored a similar ARE cap for my first gen and it's a great look.

Check the ARE commercial price list. All those cheap fg toppers on CL with broken locks etc... who wants that five years down the road?
I don't even know why I'm commenting other than that I was looking up how to paint my ARE cap.

Nothing wrong with the O.Ps topper, not everyone is dumb enough to throw away $3,000 for a fancy topper that does nothing.

Since someone revived this 4 year old thread, I may as well give an update...

I sold the $100 white aluminum topper on CL for $250 and found a black ARE fiberglass topper on CL for $200 that needed some minor rehab. The black fiberglass topper on MGM looks nice in my opinion. Just had to be patient and keep a constant eye on CL.

Only pic I have on my phone at the moment, but as you can see the metallic black pretty much blends with the MGM of the truck. Looks good with the black tint of the windows and other black accents.

What do you think the weight difference is your $100 aluminum and the new fiberglass toppers?

I honestly don't know. It is heavier. My wife and I could remove the aluminum one. No way she can help me with the fiberglass one. I've had to get a buddy to help and it wasn't easy.

Fiberglass topper still going strong though. Looking back at that old aluminum one, I'm glad I found the deal I did on the current one. It served a purpose at the time, but I like the black one so much better.
