Well, I've noticed my local toyota lot is about 50/50 new/used vehicles. I've only seen (maybe) 2 trucks loads of new vehicles. But I have seen SEVERAL with used vehicles. All which were bought at auctions.

Of the 5 Toyota dealerships in my area, I know one is completely devoid of trucks, both Taco and Tundra. Plenty of Carollas and 4Runners. The rest are very low on inventory. Strange to see dealerships looking like Buy Here Pay Here lots.

Well, I'm a stones throw from Memphis, TN. There are either 3 or 4 up Yota dealerships up there. But I have no clue on their inventory (as I choose not to go into Memphis unless absolutely necessary). That being said, a buddy of mine sells used cars as an individual (quick buy, repair, and flip them). He said the other day it's getting hard to find decent vehicles.

There is also sorts of stuff listed locally on Facebook market (just browsing at work when we have a slow night). But most are from people like him--flipping vehicles.

Is like $18k?? Are you talking about a 2010, cause new ones base price is a hella lot higher than that.

The big thing in the email is the 50 cent charge per mile. so that'll drop your truck 10-15k so they'll give you 20k-25k for your truck

I was basing it off of 2nd gen prices; a TRD sport isn’t just $30k anymore either

I worked in several dealerships over the years and I could never stand it when the salesmen would high 5 each other when they put the burn on some poor fool who just paid way to much for a piece of junk they just bought. With car salesmen it is the art of the sale. When you can take someone for everything you can get that is a great accomplishment with them, These guys are low life's and don't have a conscious to speak of.
When it comes to customer service and anything the dealerships pretend to offer you it all is just a gimmick. They are looking for suckers to take the bait.
Do your homework before you ever step on a car lot. Know what you want and what you are willing to pay. Know the interest rates and take a calculator with you to run the numbers they shoot at you. Get up and walk away when you need to. Sure you want that car but it can wait. Play the dealerships against each other to get the best deals. They will stab each other in the back to get at your money.
Just dont be a dumb ass and get in over your head because you cant walk away. They love guys like that.

It's a sellers market right now.

If you have a Tacoma and you want to sell it privately, me thinks you will make out like a bandit.

Me thinks I agree with you.

A guy I used to work with (he recently was "asked to resign"--take that for what it's worth), one morning before leaving work, walked up to my truck and offered me $21K for mine. I declined him. Told him I didn't wanna sell.

And I'm sure he's glad he didn't buy it now (considering his employment status).

I received an email the other day from my local dealer offering around $15K for my 2010 Taco in trade. They know the miles and condition. It's also a standard 6sp which for some reason catches a few more $$$. I kicked it around in my mind for a few days but the truck's in very good shape, extended cab, new frame (last summer), 135K miles and paid for. I don't really want another payment for a while.

Common sales tactic, and I'm surprised they are running it now.
I just did a service visit this week and thought I would take a wander around the dealership lot to see what they had, as I always like to do. At first glance the lot looked full, but walking around told a sadder story. Just one OR 4x4 DCLB, one SR5 on aftermarket wheels, 3 base SRs, and three Tundras. It's Texas, this dealer normally keeps 30 or so trucks in stock. Inside were there same two Supras that I recognized from my last visit in February, still rocking their 60k price tags, and an Avalon. The rest of the lot was filled with a shitload of corrolas and a few Ravs. I felt bad for whatever the sales team had to do to push that kind of metal.

It says UP TO 100% but dont think that will ever happen. It feels like it's going to be the ole bait and switch game to get you into the dealership.

Well, my local dealership (which just opened up in Feb or March) has seveal Tacos and Tundra on their lot. However, most are 2WD. Not 4WD. I looked a couple of nights ago on my night off (no need to be pestered by salesmen). But they have a lot of corollas, camrys, and Rav4s. But either way, the lot looks kinda skimpy.

My aunt works for a local autogroup with Chrysler/Dodge/Ford/GM and she has said there dodge/chrysler lot is empty. Even the Nissan lot is empty. They stage it so it looks full, but the numbers don't lie. She said they sell maybe 1 or 2 cars a day. Maybe. She doesn't think they can afford another shutdown. Dealerships won't survive.

She's lucky to still have a job (even as a part-time worker). Managers have taken cuts in pay. But for now, they are afloat. But how long is another story.

And that's how I feel this ad went. They are pulling these sale stunts to get people to come in and buy a new or used vehicle. And it will work on some. But with so many unsure about their jobs or futures, buying a vehicle right now is a luxury too many American (and possibly Canadians who read this).
