2019 Tacoma with 15K miles and Florida. I've been trying to keep at least 1/2 tank of gas and so far so good. But yeah, this is making me more nervous. Really surprised Toyota is dragging their feet with this.

    Fantastic News

I’m leaving to go on a 7k mile road trip in September. Knowing my luck this thing will take a crap on me while I’m gone.

The entire trip will be based in the truck/tent. So I’m Eff’d if it goes out.

    a little story:
about 20 yrs ago i was off road (cruising logging roads) in WA with a GMC van and started to have hiccups but it usually straightened right out. I though it was bad gas or whatever.
at end of trip i was doing 70mph on a hwy in 100F heat and the fuel pump totally crapped out with about 1/2 tank left. i had to get towed to a dealer and spent night waiting
for them to diagnose and install a new pump. i considered myself lucky.
All sorts of scenarios that would cost the owner $$$ since you guys go off road a lot. I can't believe this well known problem would result in the owner not being
reimbursed for expenses due to toyota dragging its feet and putting owner at risk.
Anyone with experience getting toyota to pony up for their failure? do you have to arbitrate/sue? would you win?

Have they extended Toyota Care for any of y’all? I’m at my 2 year mark, but only have 17k miles on my truck.

You have to remember not every single
Pump on the recall list will fail. They are failing at a rate that is much to high but my guess would he it’s still well under 1%. Most of the failures I have seen are in extream heat 100+

I have a 2017 that has been having rough intermittent rough idle and when you give it gas is stumbling. It's throwing a low fuel pressure code. I can let it sit for a few minutes and it cranks up and drives fine. It seems to do this after being cranked up fairly soon after a stop (like running in to a restaurant to pick up food). I haven't had it happen when the truck has been sitting for a while. I am out of warranty and not on the recall list. Hoping I can still have the recall applied since it seems to have the same issues.

Most fuel pump failures seem to be happening in warm climates. Where are you?

2019 with ~26k miles and just had a failure 2 weeks ago. Pulled out of a parking lot and truck was shuddering, tried to accelerate and nothing happened. CEL came on so I pulled the code and got a P0087 (Fuel Rail / System Pressure - Too Low) - tank was a little under half at this point. Filled it up and have been keeping it above half and CEL went away and so did the issues.

Took it to the dealer today and they verified the issue and code was related to the recall but there's nothing they can do about it right now... They also said they're expecting the remedy to come in September.

You’re lucky. Mine shuttered then cut off in rush hour traffic on my way home. Luckily I didn’t get hit and with a little cussing and it started back up and got me home since I was only about a mile away. The dealership wanted it to be towed there to be fixed with no lease car and my other truck was down as I was running exhaust on it. Talk about bad timing.

Im at the stealership now. They are charging me $130 for diagnostics and then recommending that I let them replace the fuel pump at a cost ofnclose to $1000. Im going to call Toyota and see if they will cover it under the recall.

Toyota care is just for regular maintenance. As long as your VIN is listed on the recall you should be covered for the fuel pump fix.

How many miles on the truck? They tried to pull the same thing with me regarding diagnostics and I told them it should be covered under the drivetrain warranty.

So they're going to replace with a known faulty part and charge you for it? I'd go to another dealer fast

They are the only dealer in my area. My vehicle is not listed in the recall and it is out of warranty. I am currently on the phone with Toyota to open a case and see if they will replace it.

LOL exactly... cracks me up people complaining of thinking they missed the guinea pig models by buying a 19/20 model to only complain about fuel pumps, creaks, CC not working and paint chips lol

I'm sure you know its not really 1000.00 job dropping your tank and changing the pump. new pump 260.00 and new pump as an assy 360.00. I'm 65yr, Id drop that tank before letting them do it for 1000.00. or at least buy the stuff find out what local car guy will charge you
