So tldr I've never modded any vehicle I ever owned so this whole thing is new to me. My question is what would I need to do to get a deeper more "truck-like" growl out of a v6 taco? Is it as simple as a muffler swap? Would a cold air intake help to get the sound deeper? I love my truck but the 2 things that piss me off are how it sounds like a civic and the chrome grill when NOTHING ELSE ON THE TRUCK IS CHROME...sorry about that. Anyways also any suggestions on mufflers and air intakes would be welcome

Also if you can link videos of sounds and configs would be nice so I can hear the results.

I've seen upgrades with intakes and exhaust, with OV tunes and what not with audio. I still don't think I hear a "growl" from them. Louder and more drone but no growl. Might be just me coming from Harleys with upgraded intakes and exhaust where my "growl" bar is set pretty high and distinct. But I have yet to see that bar matched with most tacomas.

Welcome to TW. Most will be of the opinion that you will never get a satisfying burble out of a V6, and I tend to agree with that. I've heard videos of a few of the aftermarket products out there, and to me it either sounds like a hole-in-the-muffler death rattle or the classic civic-farting-in-a-coffee-can.

Have a search around the site, some people on here love their exhausts. Good Luck.

On warm up, mine has a nice deep rumble...gurgle? gerbil? Anyway. Goes away after the warm up cycle, but I was surprised it actually sounded decent. In the low-mid rpms it sounds okay.

Your best bet if you're looking for sound out of an exhaust, is to meet up with local members with aftermarket exhausts. You'll be hard pressed to find a video that closely resembles the in person sound.

Then decide which one you like more, after you've heard them in person.

Nothing is going to make it rumble, It'll just get louder and more fartier

Don't waste your money on an intake, doesn't do anything for performance plenty of threads about that on TW, The right cat back system might give you the rumble you like.

The TRD catback sounds good to me. I think it suits the truck without sounding like a Honda. If you want deep and throaty then remove the engine and put in a small block Chevy 350 with a high performance cam and Flowmaster Delta 40’s

I have the borla and it sounds fantastic. Really like how it gurgles at 2100-2500 rpm when shifting gears. Doesnt get ricey at high rpms at all, i am very happy with it. I always hated how quiet the stock exhaust was. Also, if you drive normal its not loud at all, but when you step on it, you can really hear it. I will try to get a sound clip of me driving.

An intake wont add any sound to your exhaust. It will sound good under the hood and if lucky it will give you a tiny bit better throttle response but thats about it. Your taco and most of the vehcles already come with cold air intake.
