what the Hell is this? that looks like shit. I had my 2004 get a frame rust treatment under a recall they sprayed the entire frame with some sticky black stuff and I thought that was a bad job

Yeah i thought so too. Wanted to see if anyone else had a "professional" job done like this. But if it does its job that's all that matters I guess

    Am I to late?...
I just bought a 2007 Tacoma from a random used car dealer. Roughly 55,000mi and for a fair deal. Checked the Carfax, other websites, VIN looked good. Looked it over, look at the frame, appeared to be coated and I presumed it was cared for. Everything looked good. Mistake I made was that it was not inspected, It came from out of state. Having seen the Toyota dealership that sent it to auction had done a PDI inspections and "Safety Inspection," I presumed it would pass without fail. Fast forward, I finalize the sale, "as is" and took it to my local garage for inspection. They find holes in the frame, all located in the same area behind the front driver side wheel. Well I'm beside myself, like "what have I gotten into." So I sit on it for a few days and a friend of the family who is welder, like that's his job, offers to look at it. Goes at it with an air hammer, finds a hole on the inside of the frame is as big as his fist. So I've been looking into the recall and extended warranty, called the local dealership here in town, they essentially said, "Nope." So is that it? Am I SOL?

Is there a CARFAX warranty that can be invoked? Maybe they have a clause that says they overlooked a lemon, can file a claim that the safety inspection was fraudulent? I think your options are pretty limited, sorry to hear about this.

I think you're too late with Toyota. You might be able to argue the "safety" inspection wasn't proper. Or the 'as-is' vs any lemon-laws PA might have for used vehicles. Best of luck.

Toyota Dealer told me the frame was inspected in 2017 and they applied CRC, I think now because I have a hole in the front they should replace the frame, but they are declining

Now I cannot pass a safety because of the frame having hole in it. Is it possible Toyota would replace this frame? I’m in Ontario.

    Hey All,

I just joined the forum since I just picked up a 2013 base. It's in pretty good shape (frame and all), so I called the local dealer to schedule an inspection/etc. I used to have a 1995 regular pickup (pre Tacoma) that I gave up years ago because of...frame rot... Mine was JUST outside of the recall years.

Anyway, seeing the WIDE variability on the 'quality' of the CRC application just in this thread, who has had their Taco done in NH? I don't know if dealer names can be listed in this forum, but any recommendations on what dealer to NOT go to?

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks ABA180. I called the local dealer (Grappone) since after asking around here, everyone else who has dealt with them (not necessarily Taco related) had glowing praise for their customer service. The only downside is that the earliest they could schedule me is November 16 - must be a lot of frames to check...

That's part of it yes, in our age bracket (I have a 10) some people are scrambling to get the initial inspect done much less the second one that you get if you pass the first (where they apply the CRC, you then get a second inspect but that has to be done before 12 years from the first date the truck was put in service). I did my first about a year and 3 months ago, my in service date is Sept 2021 (forget the exact day). Mine got the CRC, so if it fails the second one I get a reframe.

Plus in general people who don't have to have their vehicles right now due to working from home etc are getting stuff done that they've been putting off. Different thing but my local bike shop is 4-5 weeks behind on repair work as of 6 weeks ago, they went from 5 days to 3 days of opening the shop because of it

Hey folks. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking at buying an 09 taco up in Canada. I believe the CRC remedy was done early last year and 12 years would expire in December of this year. Does this frame look alright for a truck with 170k km / 106k miles?

Coming from someone who lives in a shitty salty spot of Canada, it isn't terrible. It's not great, but not terrible.

And as for being neglected its whole life.. It has undercoating applied (You can see in the first picture, it is worn off where 4 post lift pads go, and the indentations from a floor jack on the front cross member.)

I would do what most people suggest, and take a hammer to the typical spots that are known to rot through first. These are right by the cats on the boxed section of frame, and check it over reaaaaly close.

I appreciate the advice, guys. After checking it out in person I decided to pass.
A local dealer told me there was a shortage on new frames so I didn't want to risk not being able to get it swapped before the enhanced warranty ran out.
    The hunt continues.

Got a letter from Mercedes-Benz this week regarding an extended warranty (200,000 miles/20 YEARS) for rear sub-frame corrosion. I crawled under my car and couldn't see anything, but will get the servicing garage to check it out as well.
This brings up the corrosion issue for my 2011 Tacoma, 14,000 miles. Just pulled the owners manual and noticed the flag I had on front re: the frame corrosion issue. Don't think I have any and Toyota dealer has serviced it and never mentioned it.
However, I live in South Carolina and they rarely use "salt" on highways and I probably have never driven Tacoma until well after the salt is gone.
Of course, the warranty has expired, but I would probably complain to Toyota anyway if corrosion was found. Lot of times companies will do a good faith repair even after warranty expires. I have had it happen a couple of times. In my case, there is also the argument that the Toyota dealership should have noticed it when they did their "multi-point" inspections.

It wasnt a recall or a warranty. It was an extended service campaign mandated by the courts.
