Tire Trouble

Here are the treadwear ratings for only the OEM tires from the factory. List does not include tires installed for regional packages and/or other port installed tires. Lower the number, the less mileage you will get out of them. As you can see, even OEM tires can hit ~60K or more.

Toyo P245/75/16 - 300
Toyo P265/65/17 - 300

Hankook P245/75/16 - 500

Bridgestone P245/75/16 - 520
Bridgestone P265/65/17 - 520

Goodyear 265/70/16 - 640

So, the Goodyear is Duratrac, not the Kevlar OEM? Are people getting ~60k miles with the OEM Kevlar Goodyears?

Also, not surprised w/the Michelin rating. Looks like it's right where it belongs

 

jcampbell474: My apologies. I was thinking of a different Goodyear wrangler tire I used to deal with. You are 100% correct that OEM are Kevlar AT from the Canada factory, not Duratrac. Treadwear rating and size that I listed earlier is still the same though.

I show the Duratrac at 500 UTQG. Is the version manufactured for Toyota OEM, 640 UTQG? Just curious because they came on my 2020 OR. First set I've owned.

 

My 2019 Limited with Michelin tires also has a Michelin spare.

 

Mid-2019, Toyota made the change to the spare tire line up as I mentioned in my earlier post which still applies currently.

Your Tacoma must have been built before the change took effect. Before Toyota just basically matched up the same tire on the spare wheel that you got on the ground tires. Your spare is probably an all black aluminum wheel as well which was discontinued as well when the change took effect. Now all Tacoma models have a 16" steel black wheel for spare.

 

Tacoma itself doesn't use Duratrac, at least not from the factory. You definitely have tires installed by either the distributor or the dealer.

 

SET is the distributor in my region. I'm pretty sure that's where they came from. Also, I don't think it applies now that we have clarification around OEM Goodyear's, but my spare is the Kevlar Wrangler (not a Duratrac).

 

That explains it then.

The lowest treadwear rating I ever saw on a new OEM tacoma tire was when Toyota was still producing the X-runner. Bridgestone Potenza with a rating of 140! That was because it was a pure, sticky performance tire.

 

If you brought up alignment couple of times before it will be documented on your service work paperwork and will show up under the section that says something like" concerns" that way it has been addressed but if you just go there and say I'm here for my 5k service. My dealership checks alignment when you drive in and has it on the paperwork cause if it's out of alignment they will be happy to charge you to correct it. They dont no where you been 4 wheeling or hitting every pothole on crappy roads to make it get out of alignment. Hope this helps

 

Good to know. Mine was built in Jan of 19, and yes, it has an aluminum painted or powdercoated Limited wheel.

 

Yeah, it was kinda dumb but just like the x-runner, your limited and the x-runner was spec'd the "same" wheel for the spare but it had to be powder-coated black. This requirement was only for the 18" wheels equipped Tacomas until mid-2019.

I almost forgot that the only other Tacoma that had an 18" ground wheel that was actually an alum wheel with plastic chrome cladding on the face also got the same wheel but without the plastic cladding attached to it and painted black for a spare. This specific wheel (spare and ground) has been discontinued for a few years now.
