Smittybilt 2780 I have is 72LPM max flow (max flow = 0psi load), ARB single is 75LPM at 0psi. I also hard mounted it under the hood, it's not plug-n-play the way I am using it, because stock it uses an open-chuck.

 

I have the same one, and never had it kick off. It can get really f'n hot though. It's a great unit too, works well.

 

Sounds like you don’t have young kids. I thought the same as you until I had 2 kids that are crying. Maybe I just need a louder compressor to drown out the sounds of their cries.

 

Any charleston locals with a trailer(or a few) willing to cart some crap from cleaning out dads garage to dump (one end of bees ferry to the other)? Damn trash ppl just keep driving by it, slowing down and hauling ass away. Kinda pissed bc neighbor said they take that crap.......

 

I ran over mine when it was sitting in the garage and bent the base and cracked the aluminum handle. I lucked out that it didn't crush the whole pump so I can attest to its ruggedness. I had a tough time finding a replacement aluminum core for the handle so I had to fabricate a replacement from some aluminum tube stock drilled and tapped and replace the brass npt fittings on the pump at air fitting to match the thread pitch on my taps. It was a nice learning project but now, other than the scrapes and tire marks, it works very well. I only had it thermal cutoff just once and I was running it a lot and yes, it does get very hot. The case fits nicely behind the seat. I will eventually move to an under-hood ARB compressor but it's not a priority since I'm not running air lockers. This portable unit fits my needs quite nicely for now.

Flow at 0 psi is a pretty poor way to measure a compressor though right? Flow at 35 psi would be a useful number. That's where the one I have starts to really struggle and subsequently overheat.

 

Yep, but the numbers look better #marketing ARB measures it both ways.

 

Duty cycle is also important to consider.

 

18-40psi on 255/85/16 takes me about 3 mins per tire. so 10 mins on total with a break to walk to the next tire, duty cycle isn't that important. ARB shows 30mins on 30mins off for the single.
