These 45 Netgear routers can be hacked and will never be fixed

I have always used Lynksys routers but recently bought a Netgear nighthawk wifi6 mesh system since Costco had it on sale. I wanted better coverage around the house and yard.

I have had it for two months and it has been absolute crap. I have pushed all the upgrades but devices constantly lose their connection and are unable to retrieve an IP address.

They have a 5 bar connection but it looks like the firmware is shit.

I looked at the Netgear forum for this model and it is 220 posts of others having the same problem and returning them to Costco.

I have to restart the main router at least once a week. I have tried setting the devices to a static IP and they will connect to the router but have no internet access.

This company seems to have gone completely down the crapper.

I am returning it to Costco and ordered a Linksys mesh network that is rated the best but is Wifi5.It is also $100 less than the Netgear one.

I see it as huge companies or government agencies that have the need and money to support large operations or infrastructures.

I've always had good luck with Linksys. My ex bought a Netgear router. I was surprised Netgear charges a subscription service for parental controls with the router. My Linksys has that built in for free.

Nerds on TW too? :) Degree in IS from the best university in Texas. :) Around 25 years in IT....Information Management/web site dude for around 9 years, 2 months and 21 days more. Then tech will be turned off as I do every single day after I log off. Retirement WILL be simple. I can guarantee that FOR ME. I DO teach my kiddos what they need to/want to know and no my son is mimicking things I teach him. Watched him trouble shoot a connection issue on his Nintendo Switch. He didn't know I was watching but gosh dang let me tell you he did everything right! I may have had a tiny lump in my throat watching him..very proud of that boy. He's 10.

Started out in mapping - GIS and got tired of being map boy and was more fascinated with the analysis side. That lead to database management, system administration and reporting. Until one day I started seeing patterns in bad data being distributed as "facts". Had a statistician group I managed that released a report to execs that in turn released to the Texas leg. That fiasco gave my group and the agency a big ole black eye. That lead me to Information Management. Where is the truth? Who owns the truth? Methods the truth is maintained? Secured? Retention applied? Master data management.... I've also become a business process analysis by default, COTS developer and SharePoint admin - that allows me to force/implement IM best practices AND automation. It's really about making the business work smarter, not harder. More importantly though, the business MUST provide staff, internal and external customers WITH ACCURATE information. Period.

That was MY problem Capt. ArcInfo in 90s but ended up working for a group that used Intergraph. Did a few MGE (dos type crap like ArcInfo)to Geomedia (ArcView counterpart) conversions. Why do I say that was MY problem? Look who leads the world in GIS....ESRI. My career could possibly have taken a different route IF I went with the industry standard mapping system. I have dabbled in ArcView but not much. Last cool GIS analysis project I did (early 2000s) was for a city PD I worked for. Mapped pedis locations to schools. It was disgusting but proved what data can do.

Have you found the "people" portion of our jobs is much, much more complicated than systems we manage? :) Have I stated how I can't wait to retire?

What side of IT do you work? Would you happen to work in SharePoint/PowerApps? Anyone else here? Need some direction on a flow...and Google is pointing to items outside of our O365 plan. Figured I checked here. Why not right?

    People suck !!!
I am doing mostly ERP at this point and yes starting into PowerApps. The latest and greatest in our organization is TEAMS. Hard to believe just how much everyone loves this. I really think it is the new way of collaborating.

Yeah we've been using teams really heavily the last few months and its been great. Its not without its warts, but overall I'm impressed with it. We use the voice calls and meetings constantly and I can't recall a single hiccup in that functionality.

Same. Better voice stability over Skype/Lync. The only real downside is that it likes to turn on the camera. Joke's on you, Teams - meet Mister Electrical Tape!

If yall are looking for other routers to consider, check out the Microtik ones. I have the hAP AC and it has given me zero trouble (even though my home network is a busy place) and has surprisingly good wifi coverage.

I think our issue is when updates are pushed it resets to the default settings.

We only have about 290 individual GPOs running right now. Locked down TIGHT!

    Surprised I can even TW.

Ha, my shitty locked down corporate laptop sits on its dock sleeping until I need to VPN in for a timesheet. The kick ass laptop my boss got me for 'diagnostics' is where all the real work gets done.

Which is fine with me, corp laptop couldn't run a VM my life depended on it.
