A couple of years ago I bought a Leer camper top off Craigslist... it was in excellent condition except for the lockplates on the side windoors. All four lockplates were very rusty.

I finally decided to see if they are replaceable. I talked to my local Leer dealer and was told that it wasn't difficult to do and they ordered the lockplates for me and had them shipped to my house.

Through Leer, the part number is 981087... they were $3.00 each plus $3.00 shipping. You can also order them from Century Distributing, part number T-HW1086 for $4.00 each plus shipping.

I replaced them this morning... it was pretty easy, you simply remove the lock handles, slide the old ones out (they are tight in the channel, but will come out), and slip the new ones in. The guy at Leer recommended grinding the lower flange off... they are easier to install and less likely to crack the glass.

    The old rusty plates:

    They needed replacing...

I replaced all 4 without removing the glass... I wasn't about to try removing the glass, I didn't know if I could get the weatherstripping back in.

I thought maybe this might help someone...

Thanks for this. Good to see folks breaking out the tools, instead of the wallet.

I finally took the time to look at fixing my locks. Thought I’d need new locks. But looking closer and saw that was not the case. A few key words and a google search, what would you know, your post was the first to be suggested! My dude, thank you.

now to see if I can find a reasonable way to order these as well.

    I'm glad I could help...

I had ordered them through Century... and waited a couple of weeks without getting them. I finally got them through my local Leer dealer... of course, then they arrived from Century.

So, I think I still have a set put up somewhere... if you have a problem getting them, let me know and I will try to find my extras... if they haven't been thrown away...

Bear, I just went thru the ordering process thru century and they want $19 shipping to hawaii. I’m not cheap or anything but if you happen to find your spares and want to make a few dollars, I’d be more than grateful to send that money your way instead, if it was worth your time. I only need two plates as well!

PM me your address and let me know if you want two or all four, and I'll get them on the way...
