Hey guys. I crossed 67k miles on my 2015 Gen 2 this week. I got the extended warranty out to 75 k miles, so I am looking.

The thing is I live in Alaska, and I am a registered nurse driving to peoples homes to render care at their house. If my truck doesn't start I need a tow truck and a loaner vehicle right now, like under two hours out the door of the dealer in the loaner now.

My 2015 (4.0 V6 auto SR5 4WD access cab) has been totally dependable except for one tow back around 45k miles for a new fuel pump. The loaner Gen 3 taco was underwhelming, I had it for about a week plus a weekend and was not impressed. I didn't have time to even open the hood to see what was under there; I was on call and busy that weekend. Whatever service loaner I had seemed wimpy on torque and the heater wasn't that great. It looked OK, but that doesn't count when I am cold in the cab and looking for torque, with 3 season tires on snow at minus 20 and colder.

If I am going to drive a couple gen3 tacos before I look at a new tundra, what motors/transmissions do I need to look for? The 5.7 in the tundra is attractive for torque, but I don't need that much truck. The Gen II taco can handle my boat and other hauling needs no problem. I would prefer an auto, as running a third pedal in heavy, bulky winter boots is a bit of a bother.

I do have "that noise" at temps below -25 dF that suggests a needle bearing set in the front diff should be replaced with an after market sleeve bushing, the dealer could not duplicate my complaint at -10 dF.

Must haves are 4WD, heat that curls short hair and aftermarket driving lights to 400W halogen or LED equivalent. Plus phones and GPS. I am running two smart phones, a GPS and a 5x8 " clipboard in my Gen II, all with the blessed help of @birddawg tech whom I am sure have caused baby Jesus to smile more than once.

Also curious if my spare set of (6 lug) rims with the Nokian Hakka winter studs would fit on a Gen III.
