Recommend ordering completed 3rd member and front diff from ECGS. 5 year no questions asked warranty.

Makes the install process much easier. I wouldn’t trust any shops in Florida to do a decent install.

Any update? I am curious to see if you found a good shop in Central Florida.

I have purchased a completed third member from East Coast Gear Supply. It took them about 5 weeks from the time I ordered until it shipped (yesterday). It will be delivered tomorrow. I spoke with Nick at Toy-Lex Auto in Rockledge, FL and he said he could swap the third member for me in about 5 hours. I live close by which works great for me. Trying to follow break-in procedures from Orlando would take a long time to get home. I am booked for the swap on July 15th. I'll give another update to let everyone know how everything worked out.

If you are closer to Orlando I would recommend contacting Advance Driveline, (407) 299-1100 or Central Florida Driveshaft, Inc, (941) 666-3874. Look them up and see who is closer for you.

I'm scheduled next Wednesday for the install of the third member at Toy-Lex Auto in Rockledge. I'll let you know how it works out.

Nick and his dad are good folks. Grahm is the Toyota guy there as they are big into Jeeps. Grahm was a Toyota certified master mechanic and has been working on my 98 First gen since warranty work at the dealer when it was new. He did my ARB front bumper and full OME lift. Good luck, they have always been good to me. Maybe tell Nick I mentioned him. Just say Gary with Black first Gen Tacoma who surfs Perkins, he'll know

So I had Toy-Lex Auto in Rockledge swap my third member with the East Coast Gear Supply third member and they did a great job. I have driven it for 100 miles now and still in the break-in period with no issues. I got the 4.88 Nitro gears with a Detroit TrueTrac LSD. I immediately noticed the difference on the interstate because I can maintain speed without constant downshifting.

If you are looking to regear I would recommend ordering from East Coast Gear Supply and talking to Nick at Toy-Lex Auto in Rockledge to do the work.

Glad it turned out good. Would love to test drive it. Been planning on a regear for my 17 one day. All my money goes into the 98 in pic.

Nice! The white truck next to yours is actually mine. I'm happy with what I have but kind of feel like I should have went with the 5.29 gears. The RPMs are still lower than I want. I think my next mod will be OVTune.

Yeah, I pretty much knew that was your truck. HAHA Sick looking truck for sure. I have gotten used to my 17 by just driving with the ETC button on. I was sport shifting for awhile but that got old. I paid mine off a year ago so I'm just living with it. I'm honestly used to it but it used to drive me crazy. "40k for this!!!" I'd yell as I drove along LOL Glad I kept my 98, it drives perfect. Agree, 5.29s would be great, especially if you weight her down with mods.

Swapping out the 3rd member usually means buying front or rear diffs with pre installed gears, this is a lot easier, at least for me that installing the gearset myself

So that means I don’t have to “ re gear” this would just be full swap

how would that work if you have rear lockers?
