Do they require emissions testing or such there?
    Maybe that's a stupid question...

    Story Time

I had my Vulcan a few years when one of the pipes cracked on a cold morning.
    OEM double walled pipe.
It cracked because motorcycles these days come from the factory set very lean...and that means very hot exhaust.
So there goes a pipe on a cold Winter day because of EPA regs.
There was no mistaking it...very loud rattle from the cracked inner pipe.

So now I gotta get new pipes.
Looked for some take-offs from somebody getting aftermarket pipes, but no luck.
So I ordered some V&H Cruzers.
They have baffles and packing...if you so wish. (I did so wish).
Or you can do just baffles.
Or run without and piss off the neighbors big time.

I thought I was set, but nooooo.

Had to take the carb off to make the mix richer.
    Was getting airbox farts.
Mind you, the mix adjustment screw was covered by an aluminum plug I had to carefully drill out.
Guess they didn't want me messing with that.

    It gets better.
    Now I had deceleration backfiring.
Like firecrackers going off in quick succession.
Caused, of course by the anti-smog crap mandated by the EPA.
It's meant to capture unburnt exhaust gas and re-route it through the airbox to get burned a second time.
Ripped that shit off, marbled the hoses and plugged the airbox intake for it.
While I was at it, I had the top end off to do valve clearance adjustment.

So now it's running great.

But if I ever have to get it checked for emissions, I'm fucked.

    Note:
No mechanic has ever touched my bike except for inspections.
    Had it since 2007.

No place has M/C emissions as far as I know.

I have done that dance on all my bikes. You almost feel like a hero taking something running so iffy to being smooth and strong.

Even tuned proper, the headers on my Ural used to glow in the dark under heavy load.

We live a bit over 5mi south of the airport and see and hear these guys all the time. They used to make a very unique noise before they faired in the hump.

Got a little present just now seeing one land for the first time.

    I can understand!

I rebuilt the carbs on this Ninja and had to adjust the trim, because like you said, they are lean from the factory.

I don’t think they do emissions testing here on motorcycles, but I could be wrong.
