It's a kinetic strap. It stretches so you can use momentum to pull the stuck vehicle. Probably not ideal in every situation, though

Hmmm... Not really interested in terrifying heights. If the appeal is driving next to a cliff and praying you don't slip off and roll to your death, I'm not interested.

Where? My wife and I will be moving back to Albuquerque NM in mid September. Look us up when you go out west. We will be wheeling and camping all over Utah and Colorado. I’m always game for Tacoma adventures!

    This is it

    https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/443-saints-john

be aware it ends at a T in the middle of no where at like 11k feet. We went left.

someone (@uploadadventure) didn’t tell me it didn’t come back out to a road until we got to the end of the gpx file and we’re like uhhh where to now?

There’s a good variety of different stuff. And @uploadadventure beat on his skids a few times. It’s definitely more than just a long flat road along the ridge.

It definitely looks like it's worth checking out. One of these years when I have more vacation time I'll have to start exploring out west.

When go out west...the top two places you should hit are Moab and the Silverton/Ouray area. They are famous for a reason. The alpine loop is amazing. And the San Juan mountains are ridiculously beautiful. And Moab is just Moab. People complain about the crowds. But if you wheel and don’t go to Moab... you are truly missing out

@Thatbassguy I tapped the skids on stock tires and the pro shocks.
If you have a true 3” lift and 33’s you won’t touch on anything we went on.

@Shellshock it just made for an interesting day! I had another trail lined up. Remember.... someone didn’t want to set up camp in the dark :boink:

I've been wanting to hit MOAB for awhile now. I want to go for a full week or more, so I'm not rushing. I'll have to check into the other areas you mentioned. I wish I could take a month off and just go explore. I hope to visit during off-peak times if possible.

Look up the Alpine Loop. Possibly the single prettiest drive I’ve done. Plus it gets to 13k feet and has some proper off-roading. It’s a long day of absurdly scenic Colorado mountains.

Also the Black Bear Pass/ imogene pass loop.

My lift is 2.3" front, 1.5" rear. I'm not worried about bottoming out, though. I have used my new skids plenty at the Pipeline here.

I'm more interested in seeing some trails that might actually challenge the truck. The videos of Saint John didn't look like anything difficult to me.

Saints John is a beautiful trail I highly recommend it.
It leads you to some hard trails like Red Cone. The all trails app is pretty good. Most of the gulch trails out there are tougher and will make for more interesting wheeling

Keep in mind an “easy” trail out west isn’t the same as easy here. Most locations are fairly remote and cell coverage doesn’t exist if something does go wrong.

I’ve not done the alpine loop yet but it’s on the list. I’d probably recommend not doing black bear until you’ve done a few trails out there. There was a guy that rolled a 4Runner off it last year.
