title says it all. what is everyone recommendations on 3rd gens? my 2nd gen is starting to have transmission issue. codes popping up for solenoid B and D stuck or not working properly. dont really want to spend the money as toyota just wants to do recommended maintenance of around $1000 just to see if that fixes the issue. i dont want to spend that much for a lets see if that works type of deal.

looking to buy a new taco but want something newer 3rd gen preferably. what year and trim does everyone recommend?

So there’s a ton of conflicting opinions on this. I had a 2010 DCSB OR and now have a 2017, same truck same color even. A lot of people say the 2nd Gen is better, personally I prefer my 3rd Gen. that said, again opinion ONLY I have a 2017 and think it’s by far the best 3rd Gen year. Reasoning 2016 had a higher rate of problems (first year), 2017 is the newest 3rd Gen WITHOUT all the nanny TSS stuff on it. Yes I get it’s safety and that’s important. But for me on an Offroad truck I do not want those things. So to answer your question a 2017 DCSB OR is the best truck! Preferably in MGM LOL

another vote for a '17 (although i have a '16 with the only issue being the underfilled transmission which i expected and took care of immediately). anything before all the TSS garbage.

    also ACLB or GTFO.

I love my 4x4 off road DCLB 2017 . No TSS (2018-present)which sometimes gets funky , no fuel pump recall (2018-2019) it has the trans cooler (missing on newer 2020’s)and crawl control works as originally intended (funky in newer 2020’s) For me, best 3rd gen taco year of course I’m biased :anonymous::bananadead:

All the years have their issues just look at what you are going to be doing with the truck daily drive, full retard off road, mall crawl? Then make your decision for some reason everyone thinks that the 2017 was the last great year for the 3rd gen funny enough most of those people are 2017 owners. I also find it hard to believe that Toyota got perfect on the second try of a new generation. So just find a 3rd gen that has what you want in it regardless of the year and go for that.
