About a week ago. I started my truck and this thing started ticking on me. It doesn't happen every time I start my truck but usually when it's been sitting overnight. But not every time even then. Like every other day and it only happens right when it first starts and then goes away after a couple of minutes. It's a "tick, tick, tick". Anybody have any clue on what it is. I thought maybe it had to do w my AC but it ticks even when the AC is not on. This is to the right and under the center dash (climate control, radio), passenger side. 20200729_083223.jpg 20200729_083235.jpg 20200729_083241.jpg

Interesting. I think I had the same clicking, but it just sort of went away... Now I know where to look when it comes back.

That’s what actuates the flaps that adjusts where the air goes. 1995-2000 are completely mechanical and cable driven while 2001-2004 uses servos.

Yeah they’re known to go bad. Luckily the 3rd Gen 4Runner should have the same servos and they’re more common at junkyards. Just make sure it has the electronic HVAC.

they will usually click when you have the temperature settings set to the extremes, back it off a little and the clicking should stop. The climate control ECU is telling the servo motor to close or open the door more but the feedback from the servos flap position sensor isnt quite giving the info that it wants so it keeps sending the signal... close or open the door more and the internal override mechanism is slipping, that is the clicking you are hearing. I have yet to "play" with one of these completely to see if the foam seal around the door is gone or hanging the door up and not allowing a full closed signal or is a simple loosening and re tightening will satisfy the reading for the AC control unit.

Lol. Sure do. My truck is my "company truck" and I can write pretty much anything and everything I do to it, off on my company. Especially if its to fix or maintain it.
