‘Good’ rods that are sensitive and precise break because of what they’re built to do which is exactly why they cost more... it’s a trade off. hard to compare fishing rods to truck parts.

Here price is reflective of strength, fishing world price is reflective of time and technology to make Super sensitive, bait specific rods and reels.

Apples and Oranges you Debbie downer.

Buy once cry once applies to most things you buy. Apples to apples. But, I will defer to those that know the rods of you metal chuckers and bait dunkers. In the world of gucci fly fishermen a good rod will cost a shiny penny. And when you pay for a quality rod, you get a warranty that justifies the cost. That's the trade off there. So far, I've only broken one rod and that's because I fell down and broke the rod tip. Sent that section in and it was replaced. But I learned a valuable lesson that day. Have another fly rod handy so the day is not lost.

warranty wont help anyone if the rod sinks to the bottom.

Either way, taking my budget rods out this weekend. If we dont catch anything i may snap one in half out of spite.

Yeah sounds like the fly-rod game is a bit different from the spinning/casting rod game. @t.hornstra nailed it when it comes to why the spinning/casting rods are more expensive. I would almost go so far as to say, the CHEAPER the spinning/casting rod is, the more durable it will be and brute-strength it will have. Wont be technique-specific, or sensitive at all, and will be heavy as shit, but it will be strong. A good example of this is the UglyStik rod lineup made my Shakespeare. Some of the cheapest rods you can get, but are almost totally break-proof unless you're literally picking up small children or trying to stop a car from driving off (some crazy YouTube videos out there of people testing these rods).

I have several old rods, including an UglyStik, and I feel more confident catching literally anything that swims with those than I do with one of my $200 finnese rods or $250 swimbait rods. Lol

I like Sage fly rods. But many have referred to them as Telephone Poles given their stiffness. I've though several times about getting into Bass fishing but haven't pulled the trigger. I'll hit you guys up for advice if I make the move.
What the hell are you doing throwing rods to the bottom?

I don't think any manufacture will warranty that.

Crazy enough, TackleWarehouse actually gave me a full refund on a Shimano rod I bought a few months ago and snapped on a snag. 3/4 of the rod went goodnight down into the murky water, so I sent back basically the reel seat portion and they had me reimbursed in full within the week- Couldnt believe it. haha

yeah most warranties for rods they just need the portion right above the reel seat which states what rod it is, Dobyns will actually let you cut the rod up to only display the model of rod you’re sending in for warranty so you can basically just envelope it in to save on shipping.

Nice. But you still had something to show them. You can't go in with a receipt, but nothing else, and say I lost it all at the bottom of the lake and expect a new rig.

So my buddy has a habit of sneaking up on people and tapping their poles to make the bell ring or rod shake. I guess he has even crawled under cars to do it. The other day our friend had rod in hand tip down after a small bite, and dude snuck up behind him bumping the end of his pole. The guy set the hook like 4 times, it was hilarious

So cue today, he got me once already with the bell, but I'm fairly on to his tricks, and he knew it. My two rods were spaced out with a few in between. While I was tending one, he hooked some line to my rodtip and gave it to another guy. Came over stood by me at other pole, and I hear one going crazy, realize its mine. Since prankster is right next to me, joke didn't cross my mind. I sprinted over, grabbed the rod and waited a bit more, we'd been getting short strikes all morning. One more lil tug and I set the hook. I got an actual bite in the middle of their prank :rofl::rofl:

Three inches short (story of my life :)), but probably my favorite halibut caught yet...

Went out to the delta with @Katchaser00, smoked a bunch of dinks and some decent 2lbers. All in all I think 30 in the boat and about 10 lost right at the boat. They just kept spitting the bait! Was a warm one but a good one. @BudMan would be proud of my flip flop tan after today.
    On to the next one.

Bruuuhhhhhh it felt like we lost 30+ at the boat! It was insane how many were spitting it. Super fun nonetheless! Glad we made it out there and got into a few nice ones.

crazy shit. My parents live half a mile from browns ravine launch area. Tons of boats coming out all the time. Gotta think it’s related to this COVID though, everyone staying home more means more avg household water usage throughout the day. It’s been warm as hell the past few months, Spring time we had extremely low rainfall with no mention of the regular annual ‘save water’ since the state is 100% COVID focused. We’re in for a bad fire season/draught... again

Lakes been nuts that’s why I like going to the delta instead. Gotta think there’s a lot of water loss as the boats get pulled out.

Delta hardly ever disappoints if it’s hit in the right conditions. Love that place!
