VSS code popping up but speedometer still works??

    2005 Tacoma 2.7l
    I have a check engine light on my 05 Tacoma and the code reads P0500 which says it’s the speed sensor but my odometer still works and speedometer, so I don’t know what could be wrong, could I diagnose the speed sensor with a multimeter if it pulled the connection off?
