Hey does anyone have any tips? I got bird poop on my fuel door. Thanks.

20200913_174235.jpg For those of us to whom it's not immediately obvious, it can be fixed by pushing the inner panel of the fuel door towards the front of the truck at the bent hinge. Sort of looks like pulling the door open too far, but also pushing the hinge. My mistake for not greasing it six months ago.

Pressure wash the bird poop out. Then spray the hinge with wd-40 to drive out any water. I've used this crc heavy duty marine corrosion spray on my tundra fuel door when it began to get sticky...stuff last on those hinges forever keeping them opening and closing smooth.

Yeah, I'm surprised too. So many aftermarket make bunch of other things but no one yet came up with a drop in locking gas door...

Door is so flimsy i'd doubt a gas door lock would be real effective anyways. I had the dealer swap my gas cap for a locking one when i bought the truck.

Is very interesting b/c the inside of the gas door is basically the same as my wife GX470 and hers can be unlock from the inside. Im thinking that perhaps some idiot may be messing with the gas door...(?)

This happened on my taco. The hinge assembly appeared to be rusting/binding, not enough to stop me from opening the door but just enough to offer a little resistance. When I opened/closed the door it would bend the hinge ever so slightly. Ended up using some never-seize on the hinge and haven't had a problem since.

Only reason i wanted a locking gas door or at least a cap was years ago when we had a lot of vandalism on our road...seems to happen at least once every year, but that year was bad. Neighbors of mine got crap put in their fuel tanks that had vehicles with no locks on them. I was one of the few that wasn't messed with due to a locking door on my tundra... although they did get even and kick in my mail box.

I just picked up a new 2020, and my fuel door isn't sitting flush with the body either. I either didn't notice it before in the mirror (unlikely) or it just happened when I put my first tank of gas in. Because I noticed it immediately as I was leaving the fill station.

I fluid filmed my truck when I brought it home. Same day I figured I would fluid film my gas door hinges and door and gate hinges. My gas door is so loose it won't stay open on a slanted drive. So I suggest if you have a good door buy a can of fluid film at Loews and blast it before corrosion sets in.

My gas door will not stay open unless I run the cap lanyard through the clip when filling up with fuel. If I just open the door it wants to close. Anyone else ran into this issue and have a remedy?

I tried to open it, and it was squeaking and grinding. I messed around with it, but the hinge seemed to be frozen up, so lubing did not work. When i tried to open it up again it snapped. I scheduled a drop off with the Toyota dealer, and we will see if the bumper to bumper warranty was worth the money.

Sucks, once you get it fixed start lubing it. Every 6 months I lube all hinges and latches with white lithium grease including the latches on the tonneau cover and fuel door.

Pretty common, hinges rust the supports breaks off. Stupid me I didn't lube it when it first got tight the lower hinge broke off the bracket cable tie sort of works.

Truck has been at the dealer for over two weeks, and I have been driving a loaner (free). To date they have not started repairs, still trying to get a quote from body shop, and going back and forth with the warranty department.

Cruddy! At least it sounds like they’re making amends. Did they hook you up with. A decent loaner at least?
