I've never been there before, but the family is heading to Ocean city on a short vacation and wanted to check it out. Has anyone been there recently? Just wondering how long the wait would be to get on the OSV zone on a Monday or Tuesday. Also, do they actually check for all the equipment that the People's Republic of Maryland requires just to go drive on the sand?

They do random checks just like DE. In 10 years I have been checked three times. Just have all the requirements and you will be good to go.

There is an automatic toll gate on the MD side. 145 vehicles on the sand at a time. Midweek, getting there 9:00 - 9:30 AM, I have not had to wait. YMMV

I was just there 2 weeks ago, but chose not to drive onto the beach b/c we were riding our bikes around the whole time once we parked at the hotel. Either way, enjoy it. Beautiful area, just remember to bring a case of bug spray :annoyed:

    Thanks for the advice guys!

We were down there on Monday, spent about 6 hours driving and on the beach. Fantastic spot, felt like we had our own personal beach. 5 ponies meandered to about 50 feet away from us. Pretty amazing place to go and visit, feels far removed from the over-crowded hole that is Ocean City (or even the non-OSV portion of the Assateague National Seashore).
