Biggest limiting factor behind the KbVooDoo or Mobtown Offroad bed bars is the process required to open the bed with the bars on. Now, if I was running a bedslide and rarely carried anything over 16" tall, we'd be in business.

Just finished doing this project over the weekend. I like how it looks. Little nervous to use it but it seems really solid. Thanks to the original poster for the idea. I am attaching pictures of mine. The cover still closes flat, it has just enough room.

Here's what I put together today from looking at the various differnt designs on this feed. As I have a soft tri-fold I couldn't go through the cover, so had to improvise. I already owned the fork blocks, so all I needed to purchse was the 2x6x4' board, screws, and the orange straps...all under $20.

About to purchase a 2020 TRD off road
Just bought all the material to do this project. Will post pictures when I complete. The total for everything at ACE hardware was 60 dollars plus the 35 mount. so as of now i have spent 90. I dont have the tools to make the 1/4 inch hols but will find friends who do.

Wow, so stoked to find this thread. I created this exact setup three years ago on my fiberglass Gaylord Tonneau cover and have never seen another one like it! Was just randomly looking on the internet to see if others had set up something similar, and lo and behold I found myself here. Serendipity, since I also drive a Taco. I used two Kuat mounts, one 15mm x 110mm for my mtb and a standard QR for other bikes with a Rocky Mounts adapter for all other standard fork skewer sizes. Had a buddy machine me upper and lower baseplates out of 1/4" steel. I just use tie-downs to anchor the back wheel, which also works to brace the bike a bit. And I made sure to measure the placement so that I can open the cover with the bikes on it, which always gets a reaction from whoever is standing around at the trailhead. I've had many people walk up to me and comment on this setup. It's cool that others have figured it out, too!

Have you been on any really rugged raids with this? I think it would work but am concerned about bending the aluminum at some point?
