First off, thanks for the add.

I recently bought a used 2017 Taco with 34K on the odo. This truck has very weird feeling brakes to me. Not sure if every Taco does this, but when you press evenly on the brakes, the truck slows to a certain point and then, without applying more pressure, it starts slowing down at a much faster rate. Almost seems like it has an non-linear braking curve. I've driven a lot of vehicles over the years and this is the only truck that's ever done this. My wife and son both noticed it too, so it's not just me. I did a forum search and didn't find anything on this, so thought I'd ask before taking it to a dealer for eval. Any thoughts?

Welcome. Is your truck an automatic? Chances are high you are feeling the engine brake. Next time you use the brakes, watch the tach. You will see an uptick in rpm and the truck slow even more.

Off road brakes are different than what you are used to, they have a totally different system than most other cars.

Are you driving an off road model? Brake booster is the cause if so. Super touchy I agree it took a little to get used to.

As an OR owner, the electro hydraulic brake booster almost feels like the brake pressure is position controlled instead of the normal force control... (not saying it is, just feels like).

Yes, it's an OR model with auto trans. I posted to see if others have noticed this as well. Now that I know it's just the way the truck is set-up, my mind is at ease a little and I can just live with it. It's not a bad break system, just way different than any other. I've already gotten used to it, but I didn't know if that was normal or not....now I know. Thanks.

If you ever have it die on you on or off road you'll know why the system is the way it is.
