I bought mine a year old and noticed a significant amount of rust when switching all my fluids to amsoil,I bought an industrial rust remover chemical that you spray on then let it sit for an hour then pressure wash off and almost all the rust was shiny metal.I then primed and painted it quick cause rust don't sleep.im thinking this may be an on going problem though,I thought Toyota would have not wanted history to repeat itself. Was wondering how bad others frames looked.

So....I got my letter yesterday, called the local dealer...Here's the information I have gotten:

    1. They need 3 to 4 days advanced notice of when you will bring your vehicle in to have the inspection and CRC applied (An appointment is required)
    2. It takes about 1.5 hours to complete the inspection and the balance of the day to pressure wash and apply the CRC coating.
    3. I use my truck daily for work and other activities, so having it out of my hands for more than one day is difficult (Besides, I have take all the firearms, magazines and other tactical equipment out before leaving it with Toyota...)

Obviously the sooner you get it in, the less likely you will be affected by the rush of vehicles coming in for this treatment.

When i picked up my taco in march it came with a very thick coat of black paint over the frame....way more than i've ever seen on any vehicle owned in the past. I would doubt you'd encounter any rust what so ever for at least 3 years if left alone. At any rate i went over it with a coat of cosmoline that should be good for at least 3 more years.

Had the frame inspection done in March on my truck and they finally gave me a call today to let me know they were ready to schedule my appointment for getting the frame sprayed. Apparently the next available appointment was in the middle of January because Toyota will only allow for them to do one truck per day. Anyone else heard this from their dealer?

Make them give u loaner. It's not like you decided to coat the frame with insufficient coatings.

Here's my 2016 , I took the pics in 2018 and truck had about 15,000 miles on it at that time. 20180715_164009.jpg 20180715_164056.jpg 20180715_164036.jpgI love tacos but the frames are absolute junk. 3 generations and they still cant get it right. I traded this truck in last year. This is really bad for only 2 winters, I cant imagine 5 or more years , probably have a perforation by that point at this rate of corrosion.

Wow! It seems like Toyota will never get a handle on this problem.

My dealership in VT is so backed up on this that they're quoting 2-3 months for the spray coating they're applying to arrive for me. They're not even doing inspections any more, just immediately applying the coating...

Looks this recall also applies to vehicles sold in Canada, too.

I agree, Most domestic trucks the body rots but the frames seem to last. With Toyota it's the exact opposite. The body wont have any rust but the frame is rusted through.
