OVTune 3.5L Tacoma Supercharger and Twin Turbo Systems

I work from home and my gym is in my garage. I haven't put gas in my truck for 2 months.

 

One year of fill-ups in the Tacoma and Cayman.

 

I don’t keep track of fuel week to week. Not saying I don’t want decent mpg if possible but it drinks what I give it and needs more so I fill it up again. I have an altima I purchased for back and forth to work but still tend to drive my truck because I like the truck more despite it being half as fuel efficient as the altima.

 

I find it easy to just log the data while I’m filling up. It doesn’t hurt and perhaps I might catch a change in performance that’s a leading indicator for something bad.

 

How about you guys move your "I don't drive many miles or fuel up often" conversation to a different thread?

Powermax 7psi final results.
the big dip has been eliminated.
The small dip in the middle is the ACIS valve. there is not way around that, it doesn't affect anything.

results:
340+ ft lbs available as early as 2500 rpm (although it comes on even earlier than this in higher gears).
380 ft lbs at 3500 rpm
395 ft lbs at 4200 RPM


363HP at 5200 RPM

Tested on 93 octane.
( I would deduct 5% from these numbers for 91)

Torque converter full lock.


With torque converter unlocked the dyno reads 380 ft lbs as early as 2300 RPM.


there is no more noticeable power/torque dip / drop.

 

there a way to lock the ACIS valve open or closed by unplugging the connector And wedging it so it doesn’t move? I know it was a known problem for the 1gr on boosted applications where the mini screw would come off and mess up the internals. I haven’t really looked at the 2gr but I’m sure it’s similar.

 

I have full tuning control over it and can have it activate at any RPM.
however the engine performs noticeably worse when it's activated at very low RPM. and if it is not activated at all power tanks above 4500.
The sweet spot seems to be activating it right around 3500 rpm

awesome on the control of the valve. I had to delete mines on the 1gr and was tuned for it. Didn’t know it made that much of a difference. Toyota always making extra moving parts lol

great results though with just 7psi! Looking forward to turning it up! That torque curve looks insane

 

Mat, with new dyno results after solving the brake gremlins, do you still stand by your assessment that the base and power max kits perform substantially similar on the stock fuel system and up to 6 PSI? I think you mentioned the base kit spooled a bit quicker so power came on a little earlier.

 

Couple questions about the base kit.
The numbers posted on page 1 (325whp/350wtq "ish"), were those achieved on 91 or 93 octane?

Not to try and nag about the number of every individual psi increment, but what kind of power are we looking at with the injector upgrade and running somewhere around 9-10psi on the base kit? You indicated you might be basing your powertrain warranty on not exceeding 10psi, really curious what that might look like on the base kit.

 

How long goes it take to transition? Is the dip because of a slow transition or is it due to using a 2 position manifold over linear range? Hopefully that last part makes sense. I have noticed this on my non-turbo tacoma.

I expect the base kit to still perform similar to the numbers originally posted / a little bit better than original results.

Yes. The performance is still similar, however with this fix applied I think the base will perform slightly better than our previous results.

After figuring out the cause, we were able to pick up 40 whp gain, and 45+ ft lbs gained.
No change in boost or anything else.

The actual ACIS opening transition is very fast. Probably 1/3 of a second.
However in a 8 second dyno run that 1/3 of a second looks like this.
If I set the dyno to take 30 seconds to do 1 pull it likely wouldn't even be noticeable. However 30 second dyno pull will cause ridiculous amounts of heat and won't be accurate.

This little dip is definitely not the same as the previous dip. Because we picked up power *everywhere* after fixing it.

 

What additional gains do you expect for the base kit?

 

until I put them back on the dyno I'll stick with the original figures 320hp/350tq, although I am confident it will actually do more.
once all these kits ship and I have some time I'll go back to base kits for more testing.

so did you achieve 7 psi stock fuel flow on powermax or should we still stick to 6.5 psi stock fuel?

 

A 6MT, yes.

 

That would at the very least fix the strange low rpm Dyno.
