There are so many things that may or may not be wrong with a knee. Most activities don't promote knee wear in and of themselves. It's a myth running is bad for knees. Running on injured knees or with the wrong kind or worn out shoes is bad for the knees, etc. but not just running. If you have knee pain, find a good orthopedist, and I can't stress good enough. If it's your knee, you want someone who specializes in knees, and if possible someone who specializes in sports, as those are usually the ones with the best success regardless of your age and ability. Follow their advice and treatment plan.

My knee doc has several current NFL, NBA, MLB, and Olympic athletes that have had him do his magic. I've had one meniscus cleaned up and need the other done. He repaired my sons meniscus and torn ACL and has done sever other knees in the family. I would never go to an orthopedist that does a little of everything. You want specialized. You want results. You want a doc who will get you back to where you were, not one who tells you to stop doing things. Seriously, find someone who specializes in getting players back on the field, not walking into retirement.

I'm 49 yrs old and have always been hard on my knees. I currently hike with more weight than my back likes and trail run with my dog. I try to run or hike at least 5 days a week. I'm no athlete, but I am very active and want to stay that way. I want a doc who will keep my knees in the best shape to not limit my activity. Also, rough and torn meniscus, tendons, etc. wear faster. Having things fixed can actually prolong the life of your knee, reduce pain, and restore mobility.

I'm 21 and I stock freight at Walmart. A while back I was having a lot of trouble with my left knee. It was hard to climb stairs and get in and out of my trucks and I thought I'd have to find a different job. I love to run but didn't know if I'd ever be able to again because bending my knee hurt so bad. I knew I had to try something and after doing some research, I decided to start taking Turmeric Curcumin. I've been taking it for a few months and it seems to work. I recently jumped over a mattress longways and didn't have any knee trouble.

knee pain to an extent is 1 minor reason for various knee interventions

    cortisone helps

    stem cell therapy helps

    not getting old helps

i doubt Not the many cures proffered ..............ALL are indicative of degradation
long term that will matter & need be addressed
    yet what choices/decisions
    come to fore

few get back whats lost no matter the type intervention

    good luck

OP is on a good course based on that prescription. He's got the warm water there ;)

Also pt808 I'm not sure how many years you have been running but by the time you hit 30 it really helps knees to have good running shoes. Some shoes give me knee pain before 2 mi and others give none on long runs. Worth it to find the best shoes you can.

I was a catcher for 15 years... later in my career during games where I thought I couldn't play I started using a mixture of topical lidocaine (https://www.amazon.com/Lidocane-Plus-Lidocaine-Relieving-Cream/dp/B00APRIZXM_, atomic balm (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=atomic+balm&i=hpc&ref=nb_sb_noss_1) and voltaren (https://www.voltarengel.com/what-is-voltaren/).... it got me through. Definitely not something you'd want to do on a daily basis - but does help you through.
