If you planned on using all four you would probably need a four lead but I was going to start with only two light and probably mount them as ditch lights

Have had mines on for 2-3 weeks now. Always parked in the garage and hardly driven but the both front tip is already starting to rust. Any solutions to fix this? Can I just spray paint the front tip flat black just to cover it?

Here’s mine. Bought from a member on here a few weeks ago. Sanded down to remove texture and painted satin black. Also removed the font emblem and filled it with liquid metal. I like it and for the price, can’t beat it.

Shell and a few MESO LEDs
I really liked what you did, jimlmackjr so I copied the approach with a few changes. I fit to a set of rhino t-slot rails (permanently) to my shell. The rails are installed parallel, in case I change my mind on the rack or ever want to sell the shell. I made different brackets front and rear to compensate for the rack taper (1 and 1/8” offset, in case anyone was wondering). I was more conservative on cutting away material which means more weight, but I think I could still sell it as a cab rack, even the original bolt holes are all intact. The clearance is barely a millimeter from the shell at a few points, but I managed to get as close to flat and level as I think one can get. I ended up welding my brackets together to add torsional rigidity.

The front rack had to be adjusted to front up back down to be as close to level (flat) as possible relative to the new back rack. To make the front rack fit like this I had to chop the rear footing slightly. I chopped the front tips while I was at it, then incorporated the $60 cheapo LED bar someone mentioned earlier in the thread using the same brackets from Ace.

I’m using 2 of the LED pods for ditch lights and 2 more somewhere on the back for camp stuff. The other 4 I wired up on my tractors. it’s all started to rust already so I’ve just been hitting everything with flat black rustoleum, bolts included. Looks way better to me. I sprayed the chrome hardware on the pods with some lube, but expect to have to paint/replace those too.

I still need to re-paint and re-install the front rack, protect the threads and chop my cab top weather stripping. Fortunately, I installed a harbor freight hoist so I can get the thing on and off less precariously. I did scratch the truck roof and shell a bit in the process so I’ve got some paint correction to do later. Wish I’d protected the roof first, maybe a wrap, but this rack should stop me from doing a lot of damage down the road. I planned to hoist the shell using the rack as an anchor point. This may prove a terrible idea, so I’m probably going to try 1 1/2” NRS straps first.

My use case: hauling long lumber, furniture, long kayaks, long surfboards, and occasionally shuttling whitewater rafts up river (without deflating). Cheers and thanks for the inspiration.

Been meaning to post pics of the yak mounted up! Perfect for hauling the kayak when I need bed space...it's 75# hull only so to put up easily it definitely requires help but it's painless nonetheless! Top holes are perfect for the hooked cam straps I use. Yak sits still and flat even at highway speed couldn't ask for more.IMG_4727.jpg IMG_4728.jpg

Awesome picture! My wife wants to get paddle boards so it looks like it'll fit perfectly on the rack!

One of the very first Covid projects. Been on since April. No leaking, and only a slight fuss to install. A couple of the holes on the brackets were not lining up with the holes in my roof rack. I had to drill out the bracket a bit before I was able to get it to sit properly.

Any suggestions for touching up? I was considering just getting some black universal touch up lacquer paint for some of the areas that were scraped during assembly and have begun to show some rust

Also, is it just mine, or is it nearly impossible to get this thing to sit on the Bottom set of holes to get it to be perfectly level? I see that a number of your 2nd gens its slightly raised in the back... Overall, great rack. I will be mounting an awning and pole holder in the coming weeks as well.

How do some of you get black hardware, while others get silver? I'd like black personally... do I have to do a special request?

I asked specifically for black hardware.

Just a small update on the rack, mounted an OVS 180* awning a few weeks ago.
