What do you have in your toolbag?

I'm trying to build out a toolbag that's somewhat specific for a 3rd gen, but also has a few general things. Just wondering what everyone keeps in their toolbag?

I've got a metric set of wrenches and sockets. A breaker bar. Should I keep any SAE tools in there for myself, or maybe someone else on the trail? I've got some electrical gear like wire cutters, shrink wrap tubing, some soldering items.

I'm kinda stuck though since I usually just throw my toolbox in there, but now I'm trying to keep the weight down and just leave it in there.

 

offroading or daily driving

 

Offroading mainly, but i'll be fine for leaving the majority of things that aren't in there for strict recovery for daily driving also. I don't daily drive more than maybe 10-15 miles a week.

 

offroading probably will require more tools than a DD, large size metric sockets maybe a impact wrench with sockets

Random shit that I've discovered over the years that specific weird functions like dental picks weird pliers etc. Lug socket and a CV socket. Milwaukee stubby impact

 

10 mm socket and wrench.

 

Bailing wire, Gorilla tape, tire puncture kit.

Depends on the type of off-roading. For most people they won’t need anything. I carry enough tools to swap drive shafts, replace CVs, rebuild wheel hubs, etc

 

Milwaukee tools has so much of my money, and the stubby impact is definitely worth it.

 

Yeah I'm not meaning recovery parts for now. I carry things like a Bubba rope, max trax, and some spare parts for offroad, but this in trying to set up a hybrid toolkit for normal and offroad right now that i can add recovery to it for offroad.

 

Other than a good led flashlight i carry an xcellite sm98 tool kit. Really becomes more handy to have for household jobs.

true I carry 10mm everything wrenchs in my truck

 

98% on road, DD here.....Small Kobalt SAE/Metric 3/8 socket set I got at Lowes on clearance, its got a size for most things and importantly a 10mm. A foldable tire iron because that stupid stock wrench is a PITA. A rechargeable jump box. Roll of Gorilla tape, Zip Ties, Half Gallon bottle of water, Bottles of both Meg's quick detailer and Windex and a few microfibers. All fits in the storage behind the driver side back seat and the compartment below the back seat. Just enough to handle most issues, beyond that Toyota Care or AAA can deal with it.

 

Just depends on how much you know how to use said tools - of course once you know how to use them you don’t usually ask this question. Idk get a set of metric sockets and combination wrenches 10-22/24 mm, a compatible breaker bar, and a hydraulic jack. Other than that you can bring a welder, electric grinder, flat stock, and rebuild your truck on the trail.

 

I have 4 tool bags in my truck including the ones for the spare tire.

Just carry all the tools

 

Exactly, provided you know how to use them or travel with people that do. Just as important to understand how to handle stuff in your garage or driveway. Then if you break down on the trail you’re more likely to know how to solve the issue.
