All good advice! I'll add that I use a tow strap however I write the month/year I bought it and then mark (with a Sharpie) how many times I actually use the strap. I actually just recently replaced a tow strap I had been carrying for about the past ten years with a new one. I think it had been used five times.

Once used my '93 4Runner to pull a 1/2 ton free that was stuck in mud, front tire in a rabbit hole down to the a-frame, the truck frame on the ground, out in the middle of the Davy Crockett National Forest. Three inches of standing water in a driving rain. Simply let out the clutch in 4 low. That little warhorse 4Runner didn't even spin the tires doing it. It just eased forward a few feet and the truck was out. Everyone was slack-jaw amazed. Me too. Try crawling first. Finesse over brawl. You can always get YEE-HAWW over it and snatch it out later with kinetic equipment, but only as a last resort. Most of the time you can just reason with it and it will decide to come out on its own...:D

I think about the same thing. I've pulled out a number of full size trucks from F150's to diesel Chevy / Dodge 3500's all on the beach. The biggest thing that gets everyone in trouble where I'm at is panic. It's on a beach trying to load boats worrying about the ocean swallowing your truck, boat, and people watching you. It's so important to slow down and think about what the best action is. When people hurry trucks / boats get damaged and people get hurt. People's egos often get in the way. Getting stuck happens work together and don't be tied up to my truck is x and your truck is y. So much easier when everybody looks at the situation as a group problem to solve.

Short story, buy the best gear you can and when you need it (you will) don't panic and think about the situation.
