I’ve been getting a lot of squeaks and creaks coming from the front of my second gen for a while now. I jacked it up and pulled the tires off to try and track them down and found that the lower part of the shock, where it connects to the lower control arm, has shifted and is contacting/rubbing on the shock mount. I’ve already had to replace the bushings on the rear shocks but I don’t remember the fronts having bushings on them from when I installed them. Pretty sure there were just misalignment spacers Any ideas on what happened here and what I need to get/replace to fix the issue? I’ve attached a couple of pictures to show what I’m talking about.

Thats not shifting. The misalignment spacers are offset for a specific reason to move away from sway bar. Do you have aftermarket upper control arms such as uniballs? Sometimes squeaks come from there generally. I rebuild shocks I usually dont see noises coming from the lower shock uniball joint. But can happen , best advice is to wash all that out with soap and small brush and hose it off. Do NOT use any lubes or even dry lube sprays. It just attracts more dirt making it worse. If you really want to do it best you can pull the lower shock out from the arm and move the misalignments with your hand and check for noise/looseness and better room for washing.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I’ve got a set of TC UCA’s that I’m pretty sure are making some of the noises, I’m going to replace the uniballs and the bushings in them. I wasn’t worried about noise from the lower shock mount as much as the fact that they’re touching the mount. It was hunting noises from under the truck that led me to notice the situation with the shock. I thought the spacer on the back side was at least long enough that the shock didn’t touch the mount. What would make them twist enough that they’d come in contact?

looks like the o-rings are gone to protect the inside from dirt and stuff,, i was told by a vendor on here they should not move side to side, and Fox told me just the opposite, that its a tacoma thing and all aftermarket shocks do it..20200630_123636.jpg but there should be o-rings on both sides,

Ok so sounds like it’s a normal thing for them to do. I’ll pull them off and give everything a good cleaning. Then it’s back to tracking down the source(s) of all the noises!
    Thanks for the replies!

Ended up being the Uniball in the Total Chaos UCA on the drivers side. Replaced it today and seems to have alleviated the noises.

I use to have TC UCA and they squeeked like crazy. They would quite down after using some dry lube but it would only last for about a week before they started to squeek again. Ultimately I went with Camburg LT and I haven't had any squeeks yet.

ive had squeaks for a while now, I replaced my UCA to Camburg Kinetik billet, thinking it would fix it, it didn't. I replaced my LCA that fixed somme of it. I took my tire off yesterday and man handled the bottom of the coilover and twisted it so it would stop making contact with the mount, OMG I fixed my sqeaks that I've had for the longest time. it looks like to ball joint for the bottom mount for the coilover is blown there is quit a bit of movement in it. does anyone know the part number for It so I can replace it before I leave Friday may 12 and before expo.
