Good Morning everyone. I've got a 2.7 equipped '06 and love it. Living in the north country it's starting to get crusty around the edges, luckily it went through the frame recall, however the sad reality is the rest of the truck is starting to show it's age. I'm thinking about possibly upgrading and have a few questions.

First: What year did the frame recall stop at?

Second: I have several sets of nice rims, what year will the stock 06 rims and tires work up to?

Third: My truck has a cap, what year will that work up to?

Fourth: What year did they stop offering manual windows, and no screen inside the truck bulls*it? I'm a luddite, and don't have any interest in power anything. I'd prefer to have as "dumb" of a truck as possible.

I'd like to ultimately buy a truck that I can swap my cap and rims onto, so I'd love to know about the compatibility of that stuff.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!!

    1. I believe they are up to 2017 now for the recall. There is a 12 year time limit on it, so trucks older than 2008 have passed their limit on a new frame.
    2. All Tacoma 6 lug wheels are the same bolt pattern. However, a15" wheel will not fit on a 2005+ Tacoma
    3. It will fit on all other 2nd gen access and double cabs, unless it's a regular cab (will only fit nice on regular cabs) I have cap for an AC/DC on my regular cab and it works.
    4. I have rolly windows in my base 2013. I know you could get them in base 2014's. Beyond that, not sure. You talking a stereo with a screen? I think everything 2012+ came with one. Get an aftermarket one, the stock radio is garbage.

It depends on your current model. A base 5 lug Tacoma wheels won't fit on a 6lug Tacoma.
The shell is dependent on your bed size and of the new Tacoma (5ft vs 6ft). Also the cap won't fit 3rd gen Tacoma perfectly due to the redesign tailgate and subtle bed height dimension.

Ok. Thank You for the information guys! Just to be clear the second generation truck was 2005 to 2015 correct? Did the third generation go to a larger wheel? Mine has the sixteen inch six lug rims. Did the third generation have larger brakes than the second generation trucks?

2nd gen Tacomas are 2005-'15 but 3rd gen Tacoma have the same wheel bolt pattern (6x5.5) so they can be interchangeable with 2nd gens. The stock wheel size on 6 lug Tacomas ranges from 16"-18" depending on the model and trim of the truck(sport, offroad,etc..) 15" rims are seen on the 5 lugs.
