I have a WR250R, and it resembles your remarks. The redeeming qualities of the bike for me are, it doesn't have the maintenance schedule of the KTM, Husky and Honda 450L, ie. frequent. And it's got better suspension, more ground clearance, and more motor than Honda and Kawasaki's offering. Living 7 kilometers down a bush road, and adjacent to a city where you don't find speed limits above 60km/h, the WR serves my purposes. Saying that, it's not a bike that I love to jump on to just go for a ride. And if I want to rip, I've got my 2-stroke KTM for that.

In short, your assessment is both fair, and accurate.

I saw a guy on an Africa Twin today. Standing up and riding like i try to do. He was probably taking a break.

I try to do adv things. Was watching a video about how to ride on gravel. I had already figured out most of it. Just needed to loosen up a little bit

This is what I use, specific to BMW and some huskies with Rotax engines, AFAIK.

The burble makes me laugh, I think it sounds like a subie with a fart can.

Does the scrambler come with any bar risers? Hows the reach standing up on it stock?

I have 2" risers, the bars rotated up probably 15 degrees, and pegs that drop 1/2" to make the ergos work better for me. Standing is super comfy and fun on the F800GS, I ride around town standing a lot, for funsies, to throw my weight around better, if my seat is wet, it also lets you practice your slow balance when you're coming up to lights.. see how long you can crawl along for and see if you can outlast the light until it changes.

I totally agree with you on those points as that was part of my defnese a few weeks back when we all argued about the wr250 in this thread, I would not go as far as to say it was a shit bike... it was just slow and really most of all neglected by the owner...
I would assume that if I had a brand new one or even a well kept used one for a few days where I could use it on fire roads etc it would have been much more enjoyable.

I would still totally recommend and defend the need and or want for 250cc bikes of this nature.

I think I assumed it would have some more get up and go similar to the many other 250cc four stroke dirt bikes I have ridden.

No risers there. If you feel like you want to stand up often, and are having to arch over to reach down to the bars, a set of risers may help. To get an inch and half or two inch risers should be like, less than $150.

With my two inch risers, standing up straight with my knees ever so slightly bent and arms dangling down, my grips are right there, makes it super comfy to stand.

Right now my sit/stand ratio is 90/10. Same with dirt/street ratio.

Up to you to decide if it’s worth it for you or not. Just trying to give you the info  My 10% dirt probably looks a lot different than yours.

Yea definitely. I have to actively search out dirt roads. They are out there, and especially if i go into West Virginia. But harder to find around me

I was reminded today that my bike is deeefinitely not a dirt bike. 60mph on gravel on a 500lb bike is terrifying when it suddenly gets pillowy.

Not a bad day though, two hours, 70ish miles, about 80% of that dirt, sand/bullshit dust stuff, and gravel, perfect 77 degrees. Then came home and gave it a nice bath.
