Painted Bumper

I painted my bumper today with Dupli-Color Truck Bed coating. Badges are on the short list and I have some decals coming from SockMonkey.

I have a factory black bumper...... A chrome bumper would be awsome..........lol

Naw. De-chromed white trucks with black trim and black wheels look awesome.

 

I just sanded the bumper with 100 grit and used a degrease/dewax spray to clean it up.

It's a beeping backup sensor. I got it from Pep Boys for $50. It's wireless to the cabin, mounts on the trailer hitch receptical (included a locking pin) and gets it's power from the hitch plug. The cabin receiver plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. The closer you are to an object, the faster it beeps. When it's steady on, you're within 3 feet of the object. It'll detect the parking curb or even small bushes. It works pretty well. Doesn't work with the tailgate down though. It sees it as an object.

 

any more pics of your bumper after everything dried? Any streaks or noticable spots, i guess what i mean did everything go on even? Bout to do this mod next weekend. After sanding, did you use a primer then paint.

I don't have any more pictures. My truck was in an accident recently and the bumper was destroyed. I'm having it replaced with a black one.

I didn't have any streaks on it. It turned out well and was very even. Keep about 1 foot away when spraying and use multiple coats for evenness. It might be a good idea to take the rubber pads off (steps). I noticed it wasn't very complete close to the pad. I didn't have any cracking or peeling but the temperature here is pretty steady.

For sanding it, get it as dull as you can and clean off any debris well. I didn't use a primer but it might make it stick better over the long run. Mine was only painted for about two months so I can't say how well it would have held up.

 

Looks good!! How hard is that stuff to work with? Seems like it would be messy (worse then typical auto paint).

 

It's a rattle can. It's no different than a can of paint.

 

Rob, you just had your truck fixed from a rear accident right? Why not ask the dealer to install a black (painted I assume) bumper instead of a chrome one or at least the ones that come from a base model (flat finish black)?

 

That's what I'm doing. The truck is still in the shop from the Dec 23 drop off. The current estimate is this coming Wednesday.

 

I like it actually.. i didnt think i would but it looks pretty cool. You did a good job making it all go on even too! Did you ask around here first if anyone wanted to trade a factory black bumper for a chrome one? I bet you coulda made someone happy (and of course you would have had to do some wrenching...)!

My bad. I didn't notice the date on the pictures. Don't mind me. I thought for a second you got your truck back and that you started painting the bumper right away. Hmmm. Hope you get one. I don't see why not. Let us know.
