Your take on the ARB High Performance On-Board Compressor

Looking to install one. Any advice will help.

For those who’ve got one. How do you like it?

 

For what purpose

 

I just installed one (dual unit) for airing back up (after airing down) on the trail. The thing is a beast and I love it. I used to have a small portable air compressor and it took forever to fill my tiny 32" tires. The ARB twin handles the 32" tires without a sweat. Gets my truck back on the pavement a lot faster.

 

I’m trying to decide if the wifey system is worth it. Or just run it in the rear compartment. Where’d you mount yours?

 

I installed mine under the hood on the passenger's side. I followed the thread linked below for my install. If you go to the 2nd page and look at post #22, that's mine. I eventually unkinked my braided line by rotating the elbow on the compressor an additional 90° clockwise.

Mine is installed on a Slee off road bracket under the hood. I love it. I can air up my truck and samurai before most of the guys with the little portable compressors can even air up one vehicle.

 

I don't have any experience with the "Wifey" system, but it seems like a bit of over complication. However, there are a few members on here that have added pressure regulators to their pump plumbing, which is nice, because they can set the desired air pressure and then walk away.

For now, just airing tires. Will look into ARB lockers down the road but would be great to already have it installed before then.

 

Anyone one time the dual ARB compressor? It takes me 25 min to do all 4 tires (255/80 17), about 33” tire. This is with a small compressor.

 

As a beginner with a stock taco, I'll be going with the single motor. Should suffice right?

Did you have any issues with the dual fitting under the hood?

For stock tires (or even slightly larger) the single will work just fine. It'll take a bit longer than the twin, but shouldn't be an issue.

The single will fit under the hood a lot easier than the twin, but as long as you go with a reputable bracket (Slee offroad), the twin will work just fine.

 

Word. I'm stoked about installing my first mod under the hood. haha

 

Out of curiosity, any reason why people put this under the hood vs driver's side rear cubby? Concern about someone stealing it? Extra cost for the harness and bracket? Seems like it's nicer and a bit cleaner bedside, also a bit more easily accessible for tools that way?

 

Wait, do you have the high performance or dual one?

 

Got mine for my locker and airing tires. I just cut the top of the stock cubby and it fits fine, soooo much easier than having to lift the hood up every time. Fills up a 32 inch tire from 15 to 38 psi in about 3-4 minutes.

 

I think the cubby install is a bit more complicated. Yes, you have the challenge of additional wiring and plumbing, but you also have to replace the cubby guts. I may be wrong, but I think the cubby bracket is rather expensive too. Plus, the underhood area is "useless" space, while the cubby can be used for other things.

Cuz I got other stuff in there already. Plus the added cost of the wiring and tray for it.

 

Honestly I'm never the last one filling up from 16- 36psi with this. Use it almost every other weekend.
