I have a v6 2015 tacoma sport. I am planning to buy a travel trailer and trying to determine max weight my truck can comfortably tow. Any feedback is greatly appreciated

I have a 2015 TRD and tow a 3100 lb 21 ft trailer and find I wouldn’t want to tow anything heavier. Once you take into consideration two 30 lb propane tanks battery plus all your gear and yourselves the weight starts to creep up there. Since mine came with the tow package and has the transmission cooler I still find the transmission temp can creep up over 225 going up hills. Not sure what size trailer you are looking at but a external trans cooler plus a good equalizer tow package are a must.

Somewhere around 4500 should be considered max. And closer to 3500 is a good idea. It's not pulling the weight that is that is the issue. It is the weight a trailer puts on the suspension. Most of these trucks are rated at 6500 lbs, but that assumes a skinny driver with no passengers or cargo in the truck.

Most Tacoma's have around 1200 lbs payload, but it varies. A 4500 lb trailer will put half of your usable payload on the hitch leaving only about 600 lbs for the driver, passengers and cargo in the truck. And 600 lbs doesn't go far. My Honda Fit has 850 lbs payload. With a 4500 lb trailer behind my Tacoma I can carry 250 lbs more inside the Honda than I can my truck.

If you want to bring firewood, a generator, or anything else in the truck then you need to be looking at around 3000 lbs.

Agreed, the extra items need to go in the trailer so only 10% is taken away from your payload. No saying to put your family in the trailer while towing LOL!
